Angry What can I do about this ?? Help Please !!!

our Kia Sedona had a problem with the gearbox (could not get second and it jumped out of gear) we took it to the dealer and the mechanic test drove it and agreed there was something wrong. Great I thought, its sorted. We then got a phone call a few days later saying they had stripped the gearbox down and the engineer from THEIR insurance company had been out to have a look and could find nothing wrong so it was not covered under warranty. We were therefore going to have to pay the full price for the gearbox to be repaired ourselves (££££££) I of course went mad with the garage and got the number of their insurance company. I was then told the same thing from them so I asked to speak to the persons boss and eventually got the managing director who could not give me an explanation why I could not get second gear if my gearbox was ok. He eventually agreed to send another (indipendant) engineer out who DID find something wrong and the gearbox was sorted.

Ok now to the present day and just over a year later the gearbox has done the exact same thing with the EXACT same symptoms. We took it back to the garage with me saying 'its the same problem' so I expect to get it sorted as it looks to me like the job was not done properly to start with or the part they used was faulty.

They have just contacted my wife after 3 days and said its a different problem and it will cost £1700 to fix.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Reminds me of this thread.

Is it still under warranty? If so, try to have the problem repaired that way.

If not, you're likely out of luck unless you can get a second garage to review details regarding the original repair and verify that the problem you're having now is, indeed, the same one. Even at that, you're not likely to get the first garage to fix the problem.

And, there is always the possibility that the new problem isn't connected to the old one.
