Here is what you do.

1. Use a jumper wire, connect the jumper between terminal 12 and terminal 16 of the diagnostic connector.
( It should look like this)

2. Turn the ignition switch to the on position
3. Press the lock button two times.
4. If you have a second remote press the lock button two times.
5. Turn the ignition switch off and pull the key out.
6. Disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
7. Test each remote for function.

Might work for you, give it a try.

I have a 2004 Kia Sedona and tried doing the jumper trick and that does not work. From what I understand, there is the door unlock module undernearth the shift lever that has a button that you can press and it will program the codes for you. I cant find any digrams that show me where this button's exact location is or how to get to it.

The Sedona Service Manual incorrectly identifies the programming terminals at the under-hood diagnostic connector, therefore the following programming procedure should be followed.

Note: At this time only one remote can be programmed into the RKE memory; attempting to program a second remote will cancel the original.

1. Open hood and locate diagnostic connector near battery.
2. Jump pin 5 to pin 17.
3. Turn ignition switch to the on position.
4. Press LOCK button of transmitter two times.
5. Turn ignition OFF and remove key.
6. Disconnect jumper from diagnostic connector.
7. Check for lock and unlock operation, horn will operate when locking.

Hello, iI have a Sedona EX 2005 and I've tried the diagnosis jumper procedure with a paper clip between terminal 12 and terminal 16 and all the procedure and it WORKS GREAT. Now I have my second remote and of course the original one WORKING. You have to use terminal 12 and 16. IT WORKS. I went first to a KIA dealer and they spent about a half hour with their super scan and they couldn't program my second remote. Thank you very much Campduck.

Diagnostics Connector Missing??

I purchased a 2004 kia sedona and then I bought a replacement remote keyless entry & am trying to program it myself.

The problem is I can't even find the diagnostics connector. I looked at all the drawings on this page & I can't find it anywhere. I opened the fuse box & looked all around the battery.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

ref see: http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carnival-sedona-forum/53692-replacing-remote.html I got two new remotes from OriginalKeyless.com for my 05 Sedona LX and the instruction wanted me to jump terminal 5 and 17 on the black plug in the engine bay by battery, then turn key on, push remote lock/unlock on for 1 sec, then turn key off, remove jumper. I found black plug see attached pdf. From articals I beleive it is the old diagnostic plug with three roles of pins. First row has two sets of two pins the other two rows have 8 pins each. The pin numbers are 1-4[small row], 5-12[middle row], 13-20[bottom row]. I thought my plug only had pins 2-9, 12-14 and 17 with pins. I jumped terminals 5 and 17=no good. Opps! From another reference material, I found I was reading pin one wrong. My plug has pins 1-3, 5,8-12, 16, 19 and 20 with pins. If I read it one way I jump 5 to 17. If I read pin 1 the other way I was jumping 12 to 16. I jumped the same pins all along. But, I still never got the remote to work.
ref see: http://www.kia-forums.com/do-yourself/35187-2003-sedona-keyless-remote-programming-2.html Bopbo's artical to orlandom with Sedona EX 2005 said to jump terminals 12 to 16. My plug has pins 1-3, 5,8-12, 16, 19 and 20 with pins. [see original picture]. I jumped 12 to 16, turned key on, hit unlock key twice, turn key off, pulled jumper, and tested remote. Still nothing got programmed.
ref see: 2006 Kia Sorento - Free Keyless Remote Fob Entry programming instructions, procedures for all automotive vehicles 2006 Kia Sorento - Free Keyless Remote Fob Entry programming instructions, procedures for all automotive vehicles says I need to try jumping pin 6 to Positive terminal as this artical says. I don't like jumping positive to any pin. Any help will be appreciated.

Found this Pinout description which may be useful,
As has been discovered by others the KIA diagnostics pin out diag seems sometimes to be given as the plug or the mirror image/socket.... Hence the 12+16 or 5+17 confusion,(In some photos of the connector the actual pins are numbered a totally different fashion to that aswell!)

Don't recommend playing jumpering wrong pins, as could cause damage but people trying the wrong jumper are probably getting away with jumpering 5 17 because its the cruise control k line to ground. Jumpering wrong pins may cause damage.

I'm going for the safe option checking pins for a sturdy +12 volts to chassis
with voltmeter. Once thats hoepfully confirmed pin 1 and 5 I have a 2nd FOB to reprogramme a la Campduck 12+16. mode de Campduck makes sense with the details below and the big success with others on this thread.

BUT what about the procedure for doing the actual keys not the fobs anyone know how? I'm guessing that might involve pin7 ......but I'm not running with it till I hear some comments as it could immobilise me, wife etc!
Cheers

Pin Name Description (may be empty)
1 +12V Power, after fuel pump
2 Cooling fan signal
3 Engine rotation speed / ignition signal
4 GND Ground
5 +12V +12V power
7 initial ignition management (coil 2)
8 L-Line ABS diagnostic
9 K-Line Engine diagnostic
10 Automatic transmission failure code
11 Check Engine indicator. Self-diagnostic codes output.
12 GND Ground
14 K-Line Airbag diagnostic
15 K-Line ABS diagnostic codes
16 initial ignition management (coil 1)
17 K-Line Cruise-control
18 L-Line Automatic transmission diagnostic
19 L-Line Engine diagnostic

I have a 2003 KIA Sedona and I misplaced my keyless remote. I now have purchased another one and need to know how to program the new one. I still have one remote that works in addition to the new one that does not work. I called the dealership and they asked if I had
a working transmitter, which I do, so maybe I'm thinking that as long as you have one that works, that somehow the new one can be programmed from the other one, but unfortunately I don't know how it's done or if it can be done. Anyone???

sorry for so many posts, but if you follow Campducks instructions , when you press the lock button twice on fob you will hear a chime that tells you its registered, but you will also have to re enter the second fob as well at the same time, I mean you press lock twice on first fob hear a chime and then press lock on second fob hear chime switch ignition off disconnect and test

Hi,
Look at the beginning of this tread, the reprogramming procedure is explained there. There's a bit of controversy about the pin numbers. The correct pins to bypass are 5 & 17, this is per Kia factory TSB #ELE-006 . Good luck.
If you have a factory remote start, do not try this procedure.
Please post your results later. MV

I have a question - just purchased a 2002 Sedona EX, which is supposed to have keyless locks, (stock). No fobs came with the car, so I bought one. Now, I can't find any evidence of the diagnostic block mentioned above that's used to program the remote. I'm really confused. Is it possible that this "stock" feature was not installed?
Thanks.
