My daughters turned all the lights on on my sedona. Had to charge the battery. After replacing it I find that the central locking, electric windows, front sidelights and rear lights no longer function. Everything else seems fine as do all fuses. Any ideas?
I know it's bad form to reply to your own posts but, having read a few posts in this forum, I'm now assuming the ETACS unit has its knickers in a twist. Can this be reset and, if so, is it advisable?
Now I know absolutely nothing about cars, I just use them to get about in so please excuse my ignorance if I don't know any techie terms :-)
I had the same problem back in Dec 05, we were working late and the kids were watching a movie in the car. They fell asleep and when we went to go home at about 2.00am the car was dead as a dodo so we had to sleep at our work premises.
Next day the recovery guy came out and couldn't find a problem in the battery and got it jumped to start it, he wanted to make sure all was well and discovered that one section of the fuse box under the hood was not getting any power whatsoever either to or from those affected fuses. This meant that we had no central locking, dash lights, ding ding door open warning, rear lights, interior lights (I think) err think that was it. To get us going with rear and dash lights he put a wire across from one part of the fuse box to the problem area and those lights were again functioning, not the rest of the problem areas though (central locking etc.) He said I needed to take it into the dealership.
Now I run a very busy business and have very little time to get over to where the dealership is not to mention getting the loan car filled with juice as it's always empty and getting over again to pick up the car....you know the story, and that's why I have my servicing done locally where they will pick up the car and return it after the work is done. Hence I've carried on since then with the car running in this way, I never meant it to be so long, but time flies as they say.
I do have a customer who's an auto electrician though not on Kia's and he had a look to see if he could sort the problem out in January. He couldn't sort it out and rang a friend who works at a different Kia dealership who said that it sounded like a defunct ETACS unit.
I really must get down there to sort it out, but would be interested to know if there's anything I can do myself as it would save me a lot of time and hassle.
This is my second Sedona, I previously had a petrol V reg and really I like the car driving wise but should have known better than to get another after that one needed a new bottom engine due to water in the oil ? That took months to sort out and ended up with Kia and I splitting the bill half and half as I'd not kept up to date with the servicing as my money was going into setting up my business. They said the lack of servicing caused the problem.
ETACS controls a lot of the body electrics, hidden behind the centre console.
Seen a few burnt out by jump starting ECU's are also very sensitive to bering jump started.
So begs the question for future refrence, if one had to, which is the safest way of jump starting a Sedona so minimising damage to the ETACS or ECU.

Didn't jump or bump start the car, charged the battery overnight, as per instructions in the manual. Was hoping the ETACS simply needed resetting. If it's defunce I anticipate the dealership squirming and trying to say it's my fault.
I'd always recommend using an external jump box, rather than a car to car jump, less likely to get any spikes that way.
ETACS/ETWIS has no reset procedure, it either works or it doesn't!
It's under warranty, give the dealer the headache, but check the main memory fuse, the one with the big yellow surround to it in the engine bay fuisebox.

Oh is there a chance this may have blown then ? I will check in the morning with fingers and everything else crossed
I assume if it's blown there's a spare in the box somewhere ?
btw my battery was charged by jump start from the AA/RAC guy's motor, will that invalidate repair of the ETACS if it's defunct, after all the AA/RAC guy should know what he's doing bearing in mind it was a KIA-assist call out.
