Hi Guys,
I have Kia Carnival 2001. I bought blank new key as spare key from kia agency. then I cut it (made) copy of the original one. It open the door without a problem but it didn't turn on the car. I think the new key need to be programmed. The agency want $100 to do that. As I think, there is a way to program new spare key for Carnival using the original one.

ttagroup,
Are you talking about programming the remote keyless entry control/fob? Or, are you talking about programming an actual, metal key. I've never heard of the latter needing to be done.

Yeah, there's a transponder (a VERY little one) in the key "handle" that operates the immobilizer. Both our cars, the Dealer stuffed up with the keys, only supplying one each on pickup. The Carnival was just a mixup & was rectified the next day but the Rio they'd actually lost the 2nd key & had to take a blank to a cutters to be matched & then "coded" to work the immobilizer. This took a good couple of hours as Wifey was driving across town & back to the only other Kia Dealer to pickup a couple of fobs that they'd also neglected to supply!

To set the immobilising computer to recognise a new key, it needs to be done wth a hi-scan tool according to my manual.
I'm afraid you'll have to pay the dealer to do that.
Hi,
Thank you guys for your respond. and sorry for my late reply.
What I mean is immobilising computer to recognise a new key. There is a way in some models from different brands (Toyota,GM,Ford) where you can let the computer to recognise a new key by doing some actions.
Do u think guys that Kia Carnival does not have similar way for new keys? I already bought a new key from Kia dealer and I cut it but I need to program it.
Some people told me it is mentioned in the Kia Carnival 2000-2001 manual. is that correct?
the 2004 doesn't have that on it. I do know on GM's, Dodge, etc, you have to have the two original keys, you put the first original in and turn it to run, wait for the beep and the red light in the dash, remove that key put in the 2nd original, turn it to run, wait again for the beep, then put in the new key turn to run and wait for a beep or double beep, it is then programmed.
