Hi all,
I have a 2002 Kia Sedona and when I come to a stop, my radiator fans comes on and my temp starts going up. I guess this is a thermostat problem. Does anyone know where it is so I can replace it?

Or any other ideas on what may be causing this problem?
Thanks!

Could be the thermostat, you have checked it has enough coolant? or it could be a blocked radiator or it may be a leaking head gasket.
If the HG leaks they can cause the temp to rise sharply after a cruise and the engine returns to idle.
If you don't find any other faults it would be worth, getting a coolant block test done.

as far is i know all newer vehicles and replacement thermostats use "fail safe" thermostats that are not supposed to stick closed

I thought that modern thermostats we're fail safe too, till my daughters Vauxhall Astra decided to play up the other day.

Then they have the stupidity to place the thermostat behind all of the cam belt. Although a simple to work on it took me 3 hours to replace what normally takes 10 minutes to do.

I'm sure you have already replaced your thermomstat or at least fixed whatever the problem was, However your question unfortunately was not answered.
the thermostat on a kia sedona 2002 looking from the front of the vehicle to the rear the thermostat is on the right side of the engine. There is a hose on the bottom right of the radiator that runs up to the housing. In that housing sits the thermostat. Take off the air in take and air filter and the black box on the housing all (10mm) bolts. Then take the 3 (12mm) bolts off the housing pay attention to how the thermostat is in and be careful to put it back in correctly. Some after market thermostats are slightly different than the original but should work fine. Also i have been told sometimes they run a liitle hotter than the original?? Not really sure on this.
Have Fun
