Thumbs up

Hi all can you help? After reading about Kirky changing the front pads after 16K miles I was wondering as I am at 15k at the moment.

Firstly

Does anyone know how much pad depth is at new?

Secondly

Anyone who has changed them, do they wear evenly?

Thirdly (I lied)

What milage have you guys & girls out there got before changeing? Please state whether you have a manual or an auto so we can build up an answer to 4.

Fourthly (Probably only a service tech can answer this but)

Do manual Sedonas brake pads last longer then Autos?

I know driving style has a lot to do with this but I would like to get an idea for when I might have to spend some dosh

We must get a harder pad in Aust, as my manual Carnival has got 110,000kms still on the original set and they will last another 10,000kms before replacement.
Unfortunately the discs are not looking like there going to last much longer either.

1. Why not buy a new set and measure them? You are going to need them eventually. :P

2. Not changed my own on this vehicle, but you'd probably find the drivers side wears before the passenger due to the weight difference. If its being driven with less than a full compliment of people all the time.

3. I agree

4.Again not a service tech but having driven autos before then yes a manual car doesn't use its brake pads as quickly as the manual equivalent. Due to there being a lot of engine braking on a manual.

Never measured a pad... but next time i have one in hand I'll see if i can remember to measure.

The inner (piston side) pads wear just that little bit more than the outers, but should wear fairly evenly between sides.

From what I've seen, it it's auto, expect around 10k miles, manuals probably 15k ish, but this is very dependant on your driving style and your normal journey, sit on the motorway for a few hundred miles at a time won't wear the pads out as quick as 300 miles of stop start town driving.

Thanks for the replies

I am at about 15k now but can see about 10mm of pad left on the outer one's of both front wheels. Hence my questions about original pad depth and uneven wear. I can then work out how much longer I should get.

My wife's drives her sedona pretty light footed, I replaced her front pads at 40k miles when we got a front squeek, they were only half worn. The squeek was something else. I compared the new pads (raybestos, lifetime warranty semi-metalic, most expensive non-ceramic I could get, about 35 dollars) to the old pads and that's how I got the half worn. So I think its more driving habit then anything.

just wait for a metal on metal sound and brake fade when you do over 60 mph and brake for more than 5 seconds.

I would rather not.

I have got one or two long trips planned and I wouldn't want to think my brakes might fade.

Metal on metal that will be me hitting the car in front then!!! Or should that be plastic on plastic

My auto got through a set in 15k miles. There was probably 3 or 4mm left before they got down to the metal.

Wear seemed pretty even both sides - not sure about the heavier wear on the drivers side argument?

My local (and quite small) auto shop had them in stock - according to the box they were the same as a Jeep model!!

Took about an hour in total to swap both sides.
