Hi Johno
If you have always had to refill the water there must be a leak somewhere.I would check all hoses to make sure they are ok,then check the radiator, overflow bottle, cap. When it is fixed check with a mechanic because you may have bleed the coolant system(something to do with the heater)Also check to make sure all hose clamps are tight,I have had the odd one vibrate loose over time.

Thanks Len
Will do so and keep you posted. By the way do you know where the bleeding valve is located? My mech seems to be on the right track with the same suggestion you have but cannot locate the valve and we cannot find a manual.
Will be watching the cricket test starting wednesday in cape town south africa.
wish you guys all the luck....you gonna need it..

Hi Johno
I'm not sure how they bleed the system as our local Kia dealer fixed ours. They are not to forthcoming when it comes to giving advice on this sort of thing. As the #1 test nation I don't think we would need any luck to beat you guys, although we are used to tests only lasting 3 or 4 days hahaha.Good luck mate

If there was no external coolant loss I'd be suspicious of the headgasket, as the KV6 engine does have a reputation for problems there.
This is a former rover designed V6 and there is plenty of info here about the HG issues on these engines, do a search on this site with search parameters of 'KV6' & 'head gasket' you'll get plenty to read.

Hi Johnno
If your head gasket was the problem you find a mixture of oil & water in the coolant, your mechanic would of found that straight away,so hopefully it is just something simple.I've just been through the drama of the head gaskets.Len

Thanks for the info...no I do not see any oil & water mixture in the coolant.
On advice from a friend I opened a water pipe...it was the one leading from the radiator to the engine and pushed water from a hosepipe into it.....since then the vehicle has not overheated and the indicator remains under halfway...but it has still used water...
Did you enjoy the 5th ODI...[b]I SURE DID!!!

As a mechanic
I have seen more headgaskets seep and cause overheating than outright blow and make a mayo mix in the radiator and or rocker cover.
But if you are still losing coolant it is going somewhere if not on the ground then its out the tailpipe.
I would start budgeting for a HG job if there is no external leak.
