I have a 2001 Sedona L which my husband tells me needs a new head gasket. My father has agreed to attempt to fit it but says that he needs a manual to do it to get all the settings. It seems that there are no manuals available...can anyone make any suggestions? Whilst i am happy to get some more exercise it's not the best weather to start walking everywhere - especially with a 1 and a 3 year old (very slow progress!)!!

I'd be so grateful for any suggestions.

I can find the info..
But the chances of it being just a head gasket are very very slim.
Is the oil in the coolant?
These engines suffer very badly from lifting cylinder liners, only cure new engine.

I agree with murphwiz about the engine.Kia have admitted to a manufacturing fault with the engines,I would be contacting the local dealer to get them to check it out.If they find the liners to be the problem you will need a new short motor. If they find the liners are the problem try to hit Kia up for the repair, you never know your luck. Here in aust Kia have replaced a few thousand of these motors due to the liners,it's a very well known problem over here.I have just been through this with my Carnival(Sedona).Good luck

Thanks for your replies (which have sent me into a complete panic!!) Yes the oil is in the coolant...

I shall show my dad your messages tomorrow (you may realise that cars are not my area of expertise (and in fact when i spoke to my local dealership re parts yesterday the guy in service dept suggested that my father should phone him as I am best placed dealing with nappies!! I don't consider myself quite that ignorant!!) Once i've spoken to my father I'll revert back to you again. Hope that's ok.

I am so grateful for your help with this

G'day Jo
Tell your dad to stick to his guns as this is a manufacturing fault, there is a thread somewhere on the forum regarding this problem. Our car is a 2000 model with 106000 kms on it & they covered it under warranty.Good luck. Also see if Kia could provide a courtesy car whilst it is being repaired, you can only ask.

Thanks for all your replies - I shall speak to Kia tomorrow. Mine has only done about 30K miles so fingers crossed....

Is this a Rover engine then? Is it totally compatible? With which model? Could we use the relevant Rover manual etc?

Many many thanks
