Hi,
I've now got a Goodmans DVD laptop style player with a 2nd 7" screen, plus I already have a 5.6" LCD screen.

What I intend to do is pre-wire a heap of DC & AV cables under the carpet and up the lining of the seats. Each of the 3 chosen seats will have the right combination of 12v / AV connectors underneath so they can suitably move with the sliding, or allow the seat to be removed.
This will then allow all the screens to be quickly connected or removed, plus there won't be Christmas tree of wires across the seats the the kids will trip over.

So I intend to dig out my cheap Woolworths soldering iron and get off to Maplin to buy a load of 12v 2.5mm DC plugs & sockets. Now, back to the question....what is the correct Maplins code for some suitable black or grey cable. ( This will all feed off a Cig-lighter plug in the back with a 10A fuse )

ebod . remember this if you are going to use the cigar lighter socket and plug in the dvd player when in play mode don,t turn off the engine as restarting the car will reset the dvd player to the start . you will also find under the drivers seat some wiring plugs which are ment for electric seats this is where i have mine powered from also it eliminates any wires for kids to trip or pull on .. hope this helps

Hi Jimmy,

I see the sense in using the plugs under the driver seat to power from but even if you take that route surely when you turn the engine off you kill all power and ebod's DVD will reset to the start when the vehicle is restarted, or is there a permanant live connection there.

Actually, Jimmy is right.

I noticed within a few days of getting my SE model that the drivers seat electrics worked without needing the key in the ignition.

It is a very good idea as I can recall plenty of occasions in my old car when I stop for fuel or something and the kids are in the middle of a movie.

But what about my question on the most suitable cable for 12vDC????

ebod ive found that most of the stuff ive installed didn,t need any additional wire . but when it came to the power source for my xbox i had to use heavy duty wire which can be sourced in any good auto shop 30 amp should be enough for anything .. in my cab at present 1 dvd player with 2x6.2 headrest screens and 1 7inch tv all hooked up to dvd player and xbox .. also a kenwood head unit with 6 disc cd player .with 400 watt amp.. none of them has ever blown a fuse ...

Hello ebod,

30amp should be fine, remembering to keep cable runs as short as posible.

Hello ebod,

Thats kinda answered the question in your reply, there's a permanant live connection under the seat, use that not the cigarette plug.

Hello Jimmy,

What size fuse are you using to protect that lot with?

As a live feed 30 amp should be fine but not necessarily as a draw.

As you say the stuff you installed didn't need any additional wire and the supplied cabling ebod has should be more then adequate to handle the low voltage side of things.

So many people forget that low voltage means heat as far as cable is concerned.

I ask about your fuse 'cause if your using anything over 10 amp you maybe
overrating so won't be protecting anything.

seacam im still using the fuses that came with each item i installed .. the real trick to this is cigar adapters and sockets the main one i bought has a battery tester and 4 sockets which i removed the plug and wired under the seat and attached the adapter to the front of seat using double sided tape and also using the fuse from in the plug . this leaves the cigar socket in the dash free for temp items . the 30 amp wire i used was for my amp and the power source for my xbox . so far ive still not blown a fuse ..

Hi Jimmy,

That a great adaptation and one I'll use myself.

If I have a concern it would be with the cable that came with the 4 way socket.

I know it came with it, I think it's to light for what it's being used for from a duration point of view, not the load itself.

Every so often check that section of cable.
