Hello,

I thought this weekend being a bank holiday I would fit the many trinkets I have bought for my Sedona.

One of them being the Profitune Chip Box.

Being the good citizen I am I thought I'd better notify my insurance company, Cornhill Insurance.

I knew I might suffer a hike in my premiums, I didn't expect the company to twitch the way they did.

They have been great about it, but will not cover with this box fitted or any after-market engine modification.

So straight out onto the net to look for insurance companies that will cover such modifications.

I spoke to 4 or 5, (not including the big names), who all claim on their sites to cover such modifications, do they H*ll, they ran for the hills faster then the big wigs did, at least they listened.

The question I got asked a lot was the increased HP output by fitting the above box, something I can't answer.

Body modifications wasn't so much an issue which means I can fit my side-steps
which incidentally I picked up for £25-00 off a wrecked Sedona.

Knowing how those of you who have carried out such modifications have spoken to your insurance companies and have had no problems, I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of an insurance company they have informed of such engine modifications and have had no problem with.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello Jimmy,

First off, Kia have never fitted Mercedes engines to any of their Sedona range, ever, I once thought so but it's simply untrue, made worse by the fact some Kia dealers claim otherwise.

Is your engine common rail?

The box I bought was off e-bay, type in Profitune Box,

I paid £65-00 I think inc. of delivery, this seems to be the box fitted by two or three members on this forum.

There is an other e-bay seller called, dimkabuldogge, sells a slightly cheaper box for around £47-00, however he could not supply for my engine.

And yet another seller, Tantemtuning again e-bay.

Then there are the big boys SCC super chips or Bobs Diesel's, these companies
do much more extensive engine modifications and there are loads of others, just use a search engine.

The beauty about the profitune box is it is easy to fit, see

Clartsonly post, " Tuning Box Fittment", with photo's page 1, under
Carnival/Sedona section.

Under the same section see Sobsong's initial post titled Tuning box for Sedona, Page 2.

Again under the same section look for posts and advise by Ebod, Dubana, Murphwiz and Eco on this topic.

Be aware of the insurance implications and remember you pay for what you get.

Try Greelight or Frizzells... not sure about frizzells now last time I heard they were dropping modification cover.

Hello Jimmy,

Common Rail--- for a sure fire answer to your question, phone any Kia Dealer or Kia UK, give them your Reg number and engine type,( look in your log book ), they can tell you if your vehicle is common rail or not.

However if Murphwiz, Ebod are reading this post they to might be able to tell you.

Jimmy what can I say, Kia never ever ever ever fitted Mercedes engines in their cars, ever.

Kia knows of this myth and for reasons best known to them, has never said otherwise.

As was pointed out to me, as you get to know your engine, if you can find one piece of engine componant that has Mercedes written on it,---------------.

Promice you, yer don't have a Merc' engine.

It has been explained to me this misconception might have come about because some of the Kia Engines may have been assembled in the same Austrian plant along with Mercedes engines.

What you might have though is a detuned part Mazda Engine, maybe.

So, how long have you had your vehicle, how do you find it, what do you use it for?

Hello Jimmy,

Gosh, where have you been?, post some pictures.

I hate to do this but for mirror covers, go in to Google, type mirror covers,
stacks of sites.

Side steps, I found some for a little as £155-00 inc. including P&P, bars are no problem either, I did that site out if you want it.

I was fortunate I got mine for £25-00, the pair.
