Hello peeps, take a look at these :-

http://tinyurl.com/99f6b

http://tinyurl.com/8vh3n

The car is a 51 plate KIA Sedona SE and the area is both sides of the chrome
tailgate trim

I actually bought this car privately this weekend and although I still think
I got a bargain, I can't believe I never noticed this tailgate...I was too
busy at the front in the engine bay.
I truly did not expect to have to start spotting rust on a car which is only
3ys 9months old. I thought all cars were galvanised these days.

The KIA paintwork warranty expired at 3yrs and the only other warranty is
the 6yr anti-perf. I'd love to know whether KIA could be accountable for
this flaw but somehow I think their dealerships will shrug their shoulders
at me. Maybe I should get a letter off to Watchdog.....

As I expect this one will be down to me to sort out, this car is going to be
less of the bargain I first thought.

Can any paint / body repair experts advise me what kind of money this would
cost to get fixed ? Also, could the repair just be localised or would the
entire tailgate need painting ?

Thx

Thats quite a bad one!
Not uncommon I'm afraid.
Rust is perforation, the metals gone there!!!
Has the service book got any body service stamps?

The service book only indicates 'scratches on bumpers'. I've already had a reply from KIA UK indicating I'm on my own on this one ( so thats the last KIA I ever buy then....)
Basically, the paintwork warranty expired 9 months ago. The anti perforation warranty obviously stands for 6 six years, but do I really want to have a car on my drive for another 3yrs with big scabs of rust on the tailgate hoping it will actaully hole through.....nah!

I'm obviously going to have to pay to get it sorted...but I'll make **** sure all the car related review forums get my negative review.

the rust warranty is 6 years but you need to pay £50 a year for them to tick the boxes.

this is a known design fault of the kias and dealerships around the uk are constanly sorting this problem out.

I would never buy a kia again either and mine was only a year old when I bought it. I always had old cars before... funny how a 12 year old £500 volvo with 200,000 miles on the clock feels the same to drive as an almost new £17000 kia sedona kia 6500 miles on it.

I am sure lots of cars have problems and the tailgate rust is a design flaw by kia, buy a new tailgate and handle and do it yourself.

Thumbs down

Hi, from Canada, I have a Sedona Kia 2002 since 2001. Hood & tailgate have been repainted free of charge (tailgate repainted second time last week - because solution was not perfect the first time). It is a known problem by Kia Canada. After redoing the paint, they simply have to insert a rubber (or plastic ?) piece in between chrome and paint to prevent scratching, due to car vibrations, to continue.
