Hi John,
Brake cables and pipes are unrelated to the ignition management of the car.
Can you describe better the no start condition?
Does the starter cranks?
Does it make clicks?
It does nothing?
Any engine lights?
Does it try to start but hesitates?
Age of the battery, etc...

Awhhhh.
Sorry John, I'm not much familiar with the CDRI model (unavailable in the USA).
However, since you have no power to the glow plugs and no engine management (I suppose you're saying, there are no ECU diagnostic lights on the dashboard when you turn the key to ON). I would start from the ignition switch. Make sure the relays and fuses are in working order. Also make sure there is power going to the ECU; you may need to perform continuity tests. It sounds like an electrical problem.
If you were working under the car, see if any wires were disturbed. Also inspect the plugs and harnesses leading to the ECU, see if they're loose or crimped.
Lets start with that...

Hi MV Thanks for that the only wires l could see while l was doing the work went to the rear break hubs but l did not disconnect them, but the hand break cable that l replaced went through the chassis both sides of the car and it passed over the fuel tank is it possible that l may have disconnected a wire above the fuel tank as you can not see above the tank at all.

Hi there was one other thing l forgot to tell you that l changed the head lights while i was working on the car and also before l took it off the road whilst driving the car the glow plug light would be flashing off and on would this have any bearing on the problem.
Thanks John
