Exclamation Stuck Accelerator

I own a 2005 Kia Sedona 6 cyl.

Recently, I started to experience a stuck accelerator. I checked and I know the gas pedal isnt getting stuck on the mat. The pedal gets stuck in the down position sometimes and it just doesn't come back up when I take my foot off. This happens more it seems after the engine warms up but I have noticed it happening first thing in the morning. On some occasions the engine will race full throttle and it takes some pounding with my foot to get it to release. I'm not mechanically inclined but i'm pretty sure the problem isn't on the inside of the cab.

Please, someone give me any ideas or other info? This is making some driving situations downright scary.

When you depress the pedal, does it go smooth? Do you feel any friction?

I think that this is still cable driven... so I would first inspect cable for rust/dirt. Add some oil into it (from engine compartment, from manifold side).

You can also disconnect the cable and see how the pedal itself moves.

Last thing I would suspect is the throttle. But still possible...

Yes; there is friction. It does feel as though there is some sort of 'catch'. To depress the accelerator all the way sometimes involves a somewhat forceful push, then it goes right down...

If so, it might be some fragmentation of the cable. Can you check the throttle if it moves (rotates) with no problems?

I wouldn't really know how to do that; I wish I was a mechanic. But I will add something though - I do notice that when the accelerator is in this stuck position, the idle rpm is slightly higher (> 1000) than when not (<1000). When in this stuck condition, should I put the car into Park; the engine will rev extremely high (> 3500) and stay that way until I either turn off the ingnition or tap the pedal enough times for it to fall back down.

there is a TSB on sedona throttle cable modification. Take it to the dealer and they will fix it up.
