Default Kia Sedona 2002 LE Air conditioning problem

Hi All

I know there are a few air conditioning threads on here all ready, but it seems like a bit of a mine field so I hope nobody minds that I've posted my own!

Right, 2002 sedona LE model, air con doesn't go cold, blowers work, light on air con button comes on but no cold air. Also, the fan on the front of the radiator behind the grill doesn't kick in when the air con is switched on.

Anybody got any suggestions as to the problem...?

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben

Sounds like the aircon gas has leaked out. This causes the whole system to shut down to prevent damage. Same thing happened on my 2004. It was the pipe that runs down the o/s inner wing and along the front X member. It's fixed to the inner wing by a clip and bolt. The clip and pipe are different metals and they react causing the pipe to perforate. Can't tell you what it cost because it was done under warranty. I was told it was a common problem and the clip has been modified. Hope this helps.

Regards John.

Question kia sedona LX 2002

Hi,
We just bought a used kia sedona LX 2002 and found out it had a problem with the ac. Today we replaced the condenser and when the electrician filled it with gas there was a leak from a pipe....! Could it be possible that its the same pipe where the reaction of different metals perforated it? (It the one beneath the condenser.) If so i presume its aluminum and brass...am i right? What modification have you opted for?

thanks

marvic

Hi Marvic
I undid the clip and worked some spray silicone grease in there. So far so good. Original pipe lasted about 2yrs and this one seems ok after 3yrs which reminds me I must give it another squirt!
Regards John.

Hi Marvic
Never heard of a Kia parts catalogue but my local motor factor had all the filters, alternator and aircon belts on the shelf. They (JMC-Weymouth) can order things like shocks,brakepads/discs,cambelt kit etc quickly. Genuine parts have to come from the main dealer, in my case 30 miles away. Also Google Kia parts and see what comes up.
Regards John.
