I have a 06 Sedona EX with 44K miles. Sat I was driving and it seemed like the transmission "cut out" basically felt like the vehicle was in neutral (RPMs increased with depressing of throttle, but did not move). I shut of the van and restarted which it proceded to work fine, However the check engine light was illuminated.
I immediately drove to the local Kia service station and was able to talk to a tech (closed few minutes earlier) I explained my problem and he told me it was a known problem with the throttle body (was not sure how that related to the tranny cutting out) but insured me they would take care of it Mon AM and that they should have the parts in stock. (I also mentioned a recent "whining noise" which increased with throttle even in neutral...also related to throttle body he said).
Dropped off Mon AM and got a call shortly after....normal unrelated stuff like front brakes and tires (which I was aware of but refused, I get my tires locally and do my own brake work).
Also said they going to fix the "throttle screw" (???) which I am not too sure what they were referring to but figured it was related to the throttle body issue and associated check engine light...that is a warranty item so I authorized.
The main thing is they wanted to get me for a $200 tranny flush. I have had the vehicle since 25-30K miles and not 100% sure if the fuid was ever changed...I know Kia requires 30K fluid change using their SP3 tranny fluid (at $7 qt) to maintain the 100K warranty.
My question is, is this problem related to the fluid not being changed at 30K ?? They said the fluid looked black. If so is it safe for me to do the fluid change or did I void the warranty or possibly cause damage
