Hi am hoping someone can help me out, have 01 kia sedona and last night when driving a symbol would flash for few seconds on dashboard and then go away. This happened about a dozen times, but car driving fine. Symbol is red and looks like two linked oval circles. Have looked online to see what this is but no joy. Any suggestions?
If it is indeed the "Parking brake & Brake fluid warning light" than check brake fluid level and bring it to normal level - check it again after couple of days, look for any leaks. Other than that - the emeregency brake light switch may be malfunctioning causing the light to be illuminate from time to time. It may happen when the e-brake was not released completely and from time to time the switch is activated... especially on bumps
Thanks for the reply. Did already download that manual and symbol not in it, but I did find a pic of symbol online. Symbol does not appear when I put key in ignition. Link to pic below, its the 1st pic on the left.
Maybe this will help identify it.
now I see
you should have said on the beginning - DIESEL I assumed petrol by default
This comes from glowplug coil. It could be either the plugs heater or relay or some circuit related to this.
Any problems starting the car? Especially on cold
oh, well. Could you have some loose cables?
Anyway, check all the connections, glowplugs may need replacement if you have never done it (what is the mileage?)
The car starts every time without any problems even in the cold.
PLP is correct, that symbol is the glowplug indicator light associated with diesel engines. Kia diesels are not available in the U.S., but on just about every other diesel I've driven, this light indicates the glowplugs are on or in heating mode and it comes on the moment the ignition key is turned to the "on" position. If such is the case on this car, the proper procedure is to wait for the glowplugs to warm the cylinder head until the light goes off and then you turn the key to engage the starter. On a warm engine the light may not come on at all. On a VW diesel I once drove, I would have to turn the key off and on several times to cycle the glowplugs when the weather was below -20F in order to start the car. On some cars, like the VW, the plugs stayed off once they had initially been used. My present Ford diesel pickup will automatically cycle the plugs for a few seconds after starting if the temperature is fairly cold. You should review the cold weather starting procedure in the owner's manual.
well, I assumed it happens after the engine was started when the car was driven for a while.
but if it happens on cold engine, just after the start, yes, that's correct - it was not heated long enough
Mileage is 100,000. I had driven car for about two and half hours. stopped for about hour and then started driving home. Not long into journey home light started flashing and kept doing it all way home which was about another 2 half hours, but car drove fine, no problems at all getting home except for symbol flashing. This only started happening last night and weather has been pretty mild so its not that its cold.
sedona have a intake air heater instead of glow plugs which suffers from the supply wires breaking off resulting in the light comming on or flickering
it is fitted on the inlet manifold below the pipe coming from the intercooler
2 large 30 amp cables corroding and snapping right at the connector
cut off terminals and replace them should put the light off BUT the ECU will store dtc's p0380 p0381 that will need to be cleared at some point
