HELP needed with towing electrics

I have 56 plate sedona and just had a new towbar fitted by my brother in law, a couple of weeks ago. I went to plug it into the caravan and found the sidelights on the caravan not working and also it knocked the backlight off on the car, i have to turn the ignition off to reset it but when i try the lights it does the same thing. The brake lights and indicators are fine. Ive had to disconnect the BLACK N BROWN to stop this happening. Just wondering if anyone as had this problem before as now very puzzled to what it can be. Can anyone help please.

What year is your Sedona?? I'm not familiar with 56 plate

56 plate means it was sold sometime between August 2006 and March 2007
