Default Need some sound advice PLEASE!

I have a 2005 Kia Sedona with 50,000 miles on it. I sent it in for a tuneup and the mechanic called to say there was sludge and the engine was ruined and the vehicle can no longer be driven. My husband changes the oil himself. It had 3 quarts oil still in car and no "oil" or "check engine" light came on. After they said it wouldn't be covered under my warrant because we changed the oil ourselves, they decided that they would change the oil and put in Marvel Mystery Oil and suddenly I can drive the van again. If I drive it I'm not sure of the damage that has occurred. Have any of you heard of this happening? What other than low oil/bad oil (which this is not the case) can cause this? It checked out fine at the 30,000 mile check up. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Seems strange that because THEY changed the oil your car is fine to drive. Did they offer any explanation as to cause and ultimately if when they did the oil change they then said it was fine for you to drive any subsequent problems you incur should be down to them. I would if I were you be asking lots of questions if only to put your mind at ease. Also I would ask around to see if anyone else had come across this (by that I mean problems with the place you took the car. Good luck anyway.

Welcome to the forum.

I firmly believe that they have realised that you are not street-wise when it comes to cars, and are taking advantage of this.
I would ask them for a written report and seek help from a reputable organisation like the Automobile Association.
