Default Carnival Advise Please

I recently mentioned to my auto mechanic (fixing an old ford for me) about buying a New Kia Carnival.
He said Don't. Why, I asked. He reckons they are heaps of trouble. They have replaced engines other things and he kept shaking his head. He said to replace a battery cost a mint.
Has anyone bought a Carnival from new (lately) and have you had any troubles.
Appreciate your information.

Regards

The engine fault was confined to some earlier model 2.5L V6 models, a lot of cars were unaffected by the fault too.
The later 3.5L carnivals are unaffected by the engine problem and by all accounts the yare considered a good buy.
Batteries for carnivals are no more expensive than other makes.

Thanks for you info. I checked out the battery at KMart and found sames price as old Ford. So whats my mechanic on about? Perhaps he only knows about old Kia's?
We bought our Son a new Kia Rio (3 years ago) its going so well which is what gave us the idea about the Carnival. The only trouble so far with Rio, was the paint on the bonnet. Kia couldn't have been more helpful to fix the problem.

Thanks for your reasurrance.
