Hi Colbre
It really is just a case of brute force. I replaced a smashed offside mirror a year or so back. I really didn't think I was going to get it clip in. I was also afraid that the force I was having to use to engage the clips would break the new mirror. It did eventually clip in though.
I didn't try this myself but, if I remember rightly, the clips are plastic. Maybe playing a hairdryer on the clips to soften them slightly would allowyou to get the mirror in easier. Be care ful though if you try this method as softening the clips might cause them to close further so making things even more difficult.
As I have said when I replaced my mirror it was very very very difficult. It did, eventually engage in the clips, so I guess it's just careful alignment and perserverence and brute force.
