Default Steering Pump?

Hello - does anyone know what kinds of noises a failing steering pump would make on a Sedona Tdi? I am getting engine speed related grating noises seeming to come from the right of engine. They used to be after driving for a few miles but now start almost as soon as I make my first turn of the wheel after driving off. I'm grateful for any info before taking in to be done.

Hi, My wife's 04 Sedona TDi has done the same since the warranty ended. Car has 37,000 miles on it and pees out steering fluid. It's air in the system and the fluid is on the driveway. I believe an arm and leg is required for the Kia dealer to replace. They said just keep topping it up. Now wife gets through a bottle every three (3) weeks (steering fluid not Bacardi). As I work overseas - looks like my leave is going to be filled with steering fluid! I have read other posts in the forum to check the hose to the rack on the driver's side. I had a quick look at our Sedona a few weeks ago whilst home on leave and cleaned everything up and looked for leaks - it looks like it's coming from the Driver's side rack end gater. It looked like a cowboy has been squeezing the goo into everything to stop it oozing out. (Wife has had car 1 year now) I would get underneath with a flash light and check for leaks - maybe you'll get lucky and find a leak out of a hose that can be fixed with a new Jubilee clip. CHeck the steering fluid level too. It's a good idea to drop the fluid and replace with new - the wife's Kia's fluid looks like fizzy black currant juice when I peered in the reservoir when trying to bleed it after the last fill. Good luck and hope your clutch doesn't prematurely wear out also!

Update, got home from leave and got under said Sedona. Cleaned the end of the rack and refit the gator. With help of wife, got under the car with engine running and got wife to put on full lock. The fluid pees out the shaft on the pump.
Easy job eh? Well it is if you can get the parts! Where the heck do I get a replacement pump this Saturday afternoon when all the motor factors and parts depts of every garage in Northern England has decided to shut at lunch! Is the war still on?
If anyone reads this this afternoon (27 sept 2008) and knows where I can get a NEW sedona power steering pump in the Manchester, Liverpool, Preston areas I'd be much obliged.

Finally put mine in for repair and it turned out to be the steering rack. All noise was due to low fluid. It has now been replaced (£380 for recon) and is fine.....well for now anyway!
