How about your 'e' brake, does it work properly as far as it lighting up the red icon on the dash when depressed?
Problem might lie in a module down below in the center console, under the shifter. I believe 'this module' controls all lighting functions. We had ours go bad in a 02 model.

Default DRL module

Just spent $258.20 on this poorly made part. $192.80 for the part, $65.40 for labour.

With this, had to replace a broken A/C compressor bracket, $146.01 for the part, 2 refrigerants $35.90 and 218.00 for labour.

Ever since the warranty has expired, there has been one thing after another.

Kia is well aware of these incompetent parts. Kia should place them in their recall list.
IMHO the DRL module, A/C bracket and the back tailgate latch should be in recall list from Kia. The service people that I talk to explaining any problem with my MV can usually tell me what the problem is as they receive so many similar complaints and repairs.

I will never purchase a Kia product again.
