Unhappy Eratic Idling and loss of power

Hi All.

Im wondering if anyone can shed any light on my situation.

2 weeks ago i bought a used kia sedona x 2.9 tdi MPV.

its a X registration ( 8 years old ) 90,000 k.

I put it in for a full service and had the brakes done at the same time.

Service was.. new air filter...fuel filter..new oil.. radiator flushed and new water and antifreeze mix.

for a few days after the car was running fine.

parked up on friday nite... saturday morning fired it up ( started with ease ) BUT engine was rattling ( moving about vigourously in its bay not noisey as such ) and whiteish smoke from the exhaust.

upon driving i find its got real loss of power and smokes pretty badly... very sluggish driving.

i took it to a mechanic who has checked the cam belt but whilst it was off he replaced it too... he said the timing marks were correct as per the manual..yet still runs crap.

he isnt a diesel fitter and doesnt really have the correct pressure testing equipment but he has used a pressure gauge on each cylinder and he says 2nd and 3rd cylinder from the left isnt reading on hes gauge at all but 1 and 4 seem ok... hes now saying the head gasket is probably gone across these 2 cylinders.

so now hes stripping it down to check it out and hopefully he will find a fault but im unsure myself that this is the problem.

has anyone experienced this before? please help.

p.s... i get NO warning lights come on and the engine NEVER cuts out... just runs real damn sluggish...white smoke.. loss of power.

Actually ive been having a damn good luck at this motor... i find that SOMEONE ( i got it from what now appears to be a back street bunch of cowboys ) has had the cylinder head off and filled a blown valve housing with chemical metal so then they sell sold as seen with no warranty... great eh??
