Im at a loss to know what or where the brake booster or vacuum pipe are, and if Im reading your emails correctly your saying theres a prob in the brake system somewhere
I may be misunderstanding your advice or I havent put myself across correctly but prior to doing the timing belt change with the engine running in neutral gear the revs would be around 750, since my DIY job the same situation is now around 1000 noticeably higher that even the Mrs noticed it, strangley it returns to around 750k when pressing the footbrake, so its not the case of the footbrake putting extra load on the system but the fact its sat at 1000k revs when doing nothing

It seems like something was disturbed when the TB was done, and this is causing air to be drawn into the inlet manifold, and this air which effectively bypasses the throttle causes the higher than normal idle speed.
It sounds like there may be a vacuum leak in the brake booster, which seals when the brake is applied - as a test take off the vacuum pipe going to the brake booster and close it with your thumb and see what the idle speed does - it should idle around 750.

Look at your alternator. On the back you will see lots of pipes coming out the back going to different places. One pipe should go to a black canister attached to the firewall, then a pipe from that goes to the brake servo.
Check all of these pipes out. One of the pipes coming from the back of the alternator goes to the fast idler.
ok thanks guys I think I know what you mean now, I take it I can just pull these hoses off with the engine running?, also are they no fluids running through them?
