Rear bearings

Just dropped off the Sedona for routine state inspection, and they've quoted me a price of over $500 USD to replace the rear bearings. Decided to attempt the job myself - repair shop said its mostly a labor job.

Anyone have any experience with this?

So, I decided to do some internet research and came across a possible recall situation with the rear bearings. I called Kia customer support who told me that my particular VIN didn't apply to the recall, but nonetheless, the bearings are considered "drivetrain" and would be covered under the 100k drivetrain warranty.

Since its the holiday weekend, I had the car returned to me and I will be taking it to the Kia shop Tuesday morning. I called the service manager who also confirmed that the bearings would be considered drivetrain, but he needs to take a gooder look at it to be sure.

From what I've researched, the rear inner bearings are around $45USD, the hub assembly is about $75USD, thats with anti lock brakes.

Well, incredibly, the dealer called me and informed me the bearings ARE under the drivetrain warranty and they will replace them at no cost. And - since it failed the annual state inspection required here in Pennsylvania because of the bearings, they will do the inspection for free. Holy smokes...I'll believe it when I pull the car from the garage, but so far it all sounds too good to be true. Just saved me well over $600 in repairs.

Edit - just drove home with car, no charge for anything and they even took care of two recalls on the car. Wow...just may have to fire off a nice letter to Kia HQ.

I would like to know what year Sedona you have. I have a constant noise coming from the rear end and want to check about a recall I might have missed. Mine is a 2006 Ex.

More than likely the bearings needed adjusting at not replacement. Both the rear wheel bearings on my 2000 Sedona had play in them and i just re-adjusted them and all is well. No charge to me - easy job.

I find it amazing that it was a $500 job. Maybe a mechanic can validate this.

I am lucky. I found a great mechanic that works from his garage. I had him replace both my front breaks on my 2003 Sedona. At the same time he repacked the the rear bearings because of noise.

The job including the pads cost me a total of $54.
