Default 2002 Sedona A/C Both fans?

Okay, I noticed my A/C works like poo. When I turn on the A/C The condenser fan comes on, but it doesn't seem to be working very well. My ultimate question is when the A/C is on, shouldn't both the main fan and the condensor fan come on? (It does have a big, friggin' condensor.)

I just have the A/C vac and recharged today to no avail, it just doesn't get cool. Also, the thing intermittently overheats not ALL the way to hot, but to the bar just below the H. I don't think I've ever seen the big fan come on. Any ideas?

Oh, 3.5L Petrol on a 2002 Sedona

interesting addendum. I was just outside, testing a few things. Had the car running at about 1500 RPM and it was like...the belt locked up or something. there was a blast of smoke and...I went to look at the compressor and it appeared to be covered with...something wet. (Refigerant?) Is there some kind of a pressure release valve on the thing that causes it to to vent if the pressure gets too high? Also: Would that be a symptom of a bad expansion valve (I pressure tested it yesterday, and the low-side pressure was at about 65 PSI) or is my compressor kaput?

Wow! Thats what I was at today too, the wet stuff is the oil from your A/C compressor, they usually hold about 10cc of whats called PAG oil, and it looks like you have the same problem I have, your seals are shot and the oil and refrigerant leaks out on the high pressure side through the bad seal. We both need new compressors, Kia in Nevada wants $317 + tax and a $75 core charge and I doubt you'll get one anywhere other than a dealer.

why would the radiator fan come on with the ac? if i was you i would buy a new compressor and a new drier and flush the lines before you install them as there maybe metal particals in you lines/drier/expansion valve/condensor. if there are any particals in the system when you replace the compressor int will lock up on you and will not be fun to change again

For the overheating problem replace the thermistat. I sounds like it is getting stuck closed. and for a/c problem replace the compresser
