are you sure the bolt undoes anti clockwise as from your picture there are the classic chisel marks from shifting the bolt on a previous occasion or did you do them? as for undoing it an air impact wrench or a large breaker bar with the car in gear and someone standing on the brakes also try heating the bolt with a blowlamp or the opposite with a freeze spray as for the tensioner it looks to me (but this is only a guestimate) like the pulley on the left of the bottom picture is one of the spring types where a spring pushes it around to tension the belt some have a locking bolt which you loosen wind it back against the spring then retighten the bolt to hold it others you wind back and shove a pin in to hold it but i could be (probably am)wrong

thanks for your input, I see what you mean about the nut and the chisel mark not done by me btw.....tbh I only assumed it came off in the normal manor, you may be correct in thinking it comes off in a clockwise direction, can anyone confim this?
Also yeah I believe the pulley on the left in the bottom pic is the serpentine tensioner but that the problem I dont know what where how to detension it

if its the sort of tensioner i am thinking about it works by rotating under spring pressure so is there a bolt head in the middle of it, if there is you either turn it to release the tension or it is a pinch bolt where you losen it lever the pulley round then pinch it up again am only firing off a few ideas as i havent done a sedona belt (used to be able to do a pinto in about 20 mins but a passat takes half a day)

Ive managed to get the serpentine belt off that funny looking star bolt moves complete PITA to get it to move....used a 19mm ratchet spanner with a bend in to get to it as it did not have enough room to put socket and wrench onto it
Last thing is the 38mm CS pulley bolt cannot get it to move (anti-clockwise)...although Ive been told the the "nick" in it means that it removes clockwise
hi just changed my cam belt the pully bolt is 38mm and is anti clock wise i got a freind who works for tyre company to come out and use hisgun to pop it off or you could possibly use a cheap impact gun the chissel marks would be where someone has used a chisel to tighten it back up. give me a shout if you need more help iv done so much work on mine i think i can pretty much quote most nut sizes ( very sad )
nice one thanks for the reply, I tried yesterday with a 38 socket 3 ext bars on so I could get the wrench out of the wheel arch, onto the wrench i put a 1.5 mtr scaffy bar, had the car in 5th gear with the Mrs planting her foot into the brake....no joy.....the whole setup with the ext bars etc was too "wobbly".
I lost my rag with it a bit and just cut the belt off with a scalpel(lined up the 4 timing marks)....figured I would somehow get the new belt on started thread the new belt on......seems to be going way to easy....hmmmmm too much slack......the belts only WAY WAY to big.......turns out there are 3 belts for the 2.9 diesel sedona the one I actually needed has 152 teeth (counted them on the old one).....this one had more fekking teeth than a great white....!
Problem is I bought a bundle of Sedona items off someone on ebay about 18 months ago so no regress
I waiting till Tuesday to order the correct part.....but Im wondering wether to give in now and phone a mobile mechanic to finish the job off (sort my mess out) when I get the part as the big 38mm CS bolt is still on and Im slightly concerned about the timing marks moving which leads me nicely into my next question
If they move can I just move them back into their timing mark position? and if yes do I turn them the quickest route to the timing mark or clockwise (even if anti clockwise is the shorter distance)
I can no longer lock off the diesel injecter sprocket as I had already locked it into position earlier with a bolt but the fekker snapped when I was trying to remove the 38mm CS bolt.
As you can see its been a PITA uptil now should I go on or what guys?, also any answers to the above mucho appreciated also
Its also cost me about £120 in new tools so far (Big socket set for the bolt that wont move and a ratchet spanner set which enable me to get the serpentine belt off)
Its the 2.9 Diesel CRDI the timing belt is on the 1st pic going across the top two sprockets......Its got around 125000 miles on it....looks like someone has changed it in the past as the bottom guard is missing and the CS bolt is marked but I have no history about when this was done so going down the route of better safe than sorry
Plus if you read the above I just cut the bugger off with a scalpel
