I have an 03 and haev been generally happy. Here are a list of issues I've faced
1. Alternator
2. Front axel
3. wheel bearings
4. A/C control in cab
5. A/C compressor
The A/C control in the cab was giving me a problem where when you would change the vent selection the change would not occur. even the new one exhibits this problem. I've learned that I can't go from dash vents to defrost vents immediately. I have to select each one as I turn the dial and wait about a 2nd between turns. Might be a fluke but it works for me.
All of the problems above were handled by the warranty.
My sister-in-law bought a dodge but looked at a Spectre this week. It did not occur to me how expensive it was to maintain these Kias compared to a Dodge. For my van we had to take it in for its regular maintenance every 15k miles. The 60k mile inspection was a major wallet buster. They seemed to have added the rule that to maintain the power-train the transmission flush must be done at 60k.
Parts are pricey and can be hard to find at a regular store. My mechanic is doing a standard timing belt change and water pump change too. I had to order the belt from one store and the pump from another. No one really stocks parts for the Kia.
I've enjoyed my van. I think that because I did do the regular maintenance that might be the cause of my good luck with this vehicle. There are only two things I'm not satisified with
1. Power
Sometimes if I need to jump in traffic I can't with the van. I can push the pedal to the floor and it seems to be thinking about what I'm asking it to do. It does jump into a fast rhythm but seems to take about 1s to get started
2. A/C temp
The A/C is just not that cold compared to my little VW jetta. It has never been really cold.
They seemed to have added the rule that to maintain the power-train the transmission flush must be done at 60k.
Hmm...nothing like that in my manual. Says transmission fluid should be changed at the 100k mark.
Regardless, good to hear its been working out for you. Most of my repairs have been done at the regular mechanic for much lower than the dealer cost has been. Brakes, oil changes, belts and inspections have been done at a fraction of the cost as opposed to the dealer. But I do hear you about the upkeep costs, its been documented that the inspections Kia wants done on the car cost far more and are more frequent than other vehicles.
I have a 2006, about 18,000 miles on it. My wife and I really like it -- no problems whatsoever. Just wish the gas mileage was better, but we knew we would average around 17 mpg when we bought it, so we were not surprised.

I'm fairly happy with mine - it is the 2.9 diesel auto. It is not perfect, but then Idon't think anything is. My main probblem is tha it was stolen the day after -
picked it it up, bu that is no fault of Kia.
My experience of the dealer is generally very good - the one I bought it from has been very good and helpful. I cannot dsay the same about the ones my insurance company and their appointed repair centre have used. (moreover their use of apparently genuine, but non-standard UK Kia parts).
Of course in the current climate I wish it did more mpg... I need to carry 2 bank cards for pay at pump machines.......
We're happy with ours its an 03 2.9 diesel manual with 56,000 miles on the clock. It cruises down to our house in France and manages to average 36Mpg uk as long as we take it steady, if we don't it creeps down to about 32Mpg.
This is my workhorse vehicle I use it to transport lots of tools and tow a car trailer with it, (don't like 4x4's for driving long distances) it just does what it says on the tin, I service it myself as I don't trust local garages to do a correct job and keep everything running nicely.
It cost me a huge amount this year when my daughter let a door go in the winds earlier in the year and the repair bill came in at £1500, parts are not cheap but keep an eye on ebay for spares and use TH white for everything else who give discount by mentioning ebay!
If I mention I'm thinking of changing it the kids almost kill me, they love travelling in it and think its the mutts nuts.
2001 manual classic carnival petrol version, 135,000kms on the dial since I purchased new, only cost has been associated with regular maintenance which I do.
It has needed a timing belt & spark plugs at 100,000kms, 4 new tyres at 75,000kms, brake pads at 130,000kms and battery at 4 years.
Other than regular fluids, filters, etc it is a great car that averages just under 10L/100km.
It has never suffered any other faults or problems, a great car, so happy with KIA's I purchased my son a new optima in 2005 that hasn't missed a beat which is even a better car than the carnival and I just purchased myself a new magentis luxury.
This car has everything, all the fruit, climate control airbags, esc,ebd,tcs,5 speed auto etc, etc,etc the list is almost endless and with only 2400kms on the dial it is getting 8.6kms/100L and you cannot wipe the grin off my face even by belting me with a dead fish.

Hi y'all,
All my family agree.... the Sedona is great. Had mine 4 yrs and no major probs. Not too good in snow/ice and cd player, which was replaced under warranty 2 years ago is on the blink again.ie. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Also disappointed with the battery..... looks like I need a new one. (4 years doesn't seem long to me.)
A previous subscriber (Esses) had a similar problem and discovered the problem was battery drain and it was down to a wiring gremlin on the dvd circuit... must have it checked out,
but overall, I love my Kia.... it's as smooth as boiled ham !
We're in two minds about our 2007 2.9 CRDi LS........She loves it but I'm not too sure.
pros: versatility, interior size, comfort, road presence, low road noise, good audio equipment, good headlights
cons: fuel economy (28-34 mpg), tyre wear (fronts replaced at 9800 miles), electric doors (shut failure fault), seat cover wear, front wheel judder when braking (warped discs at approx 8000 miles), seat weight when removing
Would I have another? With 3 children under 5 we're limited to what to go for....VW too sterile, Meriva/Zafira/Corolla Verso too small, Ford SMax.....too dear.....and it's a Ford So we'll probably stay with this - plus the fact if we get a caravan it'll pull a biggun no problem.
Would be nice to have folding mirrors on the LS though.
everyone is getting 20+ I am only getting 12 - 15 SUCKS! not sure what to do.. It's an auto '05 3.5L I have changed air filter twice in the 2 years I have had it. Yesterday the AC Compressor went out! JOY oh JOY.. (106 degrees today!)
