Default problems with 07 sedona - stalling and computer

Me and my hubby bought an 07 sedona this past fall, and we have been having problems with it since winter hit.

The check engine light will come on (randomly) and then at that point it starts acting up badly. It will die out on us, when I say that I mean that it isn't stalling completely. But it will just not have any acceleration anymore. It's idling, but you step on the gas and you get nothing. Zilch, zero, nil, nada. Got the brakes, radio still goes, everything's working, just no gas action. You have to turn it off, and sometiems start it back up a few times before you will have your gas back.

Another thing is it will jerk a bit when your driving (again, only when check engine light is on). It feels as tho you have suddenly taken your foot off the gas and put it back on to keep driving. But it's the van, you haven't taken your foot off the gas at all.

Also, it will completely stall. You can hardly turn because it's lost that, you still have brakes thank god. But no power. And when that happens, it will take maybe around 6 tries to get it restarted.

Then, just as suddenly as it came on, the check engine light will go off, and the problems will stop. We'll be fine for a few weeks at most (this last time was probably almost a month and the longest it's gone) and then it will start all over. Sometimes the light is one for up to a week.

We got thru a tank of gas in about 2 or 3 days, so we are filling up during this time. It happens in warmer weather as well as colder weather, rain, sun, doesn't matter it's always different. The only reliable thing is that when that light comes on, your in for a long day.

Kia also doesn't give you a rental car unless it will be kept overnight, and we live in a rural area and have 3 kids, so that just isn't feasible. And of course the dealership is always quick to have your car back for the end of the day, but we work weird hours too so that is never convienent for us of course. Neither are the drop off times. We depend heavily on our vehicles, and seem to constantly get lemons, that is why we went with a brand new vehicle with almost no KMS on it. We never imagined problems like this.

Anyone have any idea what's going on and what we can ask the dealership to be checking for? we know that their going to reset some codes like they did last time and claim it is fixed, and this will be the story everytime we go. We don't have the time, nor do we have another vehicle to drive while it is getting fixed, and they already reset codes and it didn't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

My check engine light has come on at least three times. They keep telling me its a "false code" in the computer. I haven't had any stalling, but I'm concerned there's something they're not telling me. (2006 Sedona LX)

Totally had the same problem two times now with our Sedona 2006; terrifying, happened when on the highway and trying to accelerate (not stomping on it, just going uphill). Seems like it just drops into neutral or something, engine still on but it will roll backwards even on slight incline, etc... First time was able to let up on the gas and it re-engaged, second time car came to a standstill, put it in park, reverse, drive, park, drive to no avail. Had to re-start the engine (meanwhile cars whizzing by us at 70 mph and others stuck behind us) then it worked... too terrified to remember if check engine light came on, but believe it did not, actually...

Anyone have any ideas??? Please?

Just based on what I have read so far it sounds like you have a sensor in either the air intake system or the fuel system. When one of the many sensors that control the fuel/air flow mixture in the vehicle goes bad or starts to go bad that will cause the vehicle to do what it did because that is what the computer is telling it to do. It is easy for a dealership to just erase the faults in the computer and if this is just an intermitant problem than they think it is good to go. The mechanics should have the capability to scan the entire vehicle and check all the sensors out. Not sure if that helped but let us all know I just purchased a 2007 Sedona and if this is something to look for maybe I can head it off before it happens.

This problems is caused by the ETC, aka throttle body. I don't remember all the codes, but if you get a Forced Limited Power code, it means, it has gone into limp home mode.
