Default Help!

Hey guys
I'm new here and need a little advice.
i have a 2000 sedona 2.9 td the air is blowing hot and cold (mainly cold!) temp gauge is flickering from a quarter warm to half warm, it is losing coolant from the expansion tank and upon further inspection i have noticed that there seems to be "oil spray" on the offside inner wing around the fuel pump/power stearing tanks (coincidence?). im not an expert but things seem to be pointing to the thermostat maybe if i left the heater fan switched off for some time then hot air will trickle out until i put the blower on and then it does this rinse and repeat hot cold thing.... i guess looking back i have noticed that it has taken longer and longer amounts of time for the cab to get warm.... any idea's ?????

also i contacted my local motor spares place and he said that kia wasnt listed in his book for thermostats :-S

thanks

If its loosing water from the expansion tank it could well be head gasket problems.

Do a test in the morning when its suppposedly stone cold. Undo the metal pressure cap ( not the plastic expansion tank ) and if there is a pssst of pressure like opening a coke bottle then the system has been gassing ( i.e combustion gases breaking through and pressurising the water system )

thanks ebod
Would that imply a head gasket problem? If so will i need to have it replaced?

This happened to my 2002 Citroen Xsara 2.0 HDI. By the time I had it fitted with new belts , pulleys and water pump, the HG job cost me nearly a Łgrand a few months ago...

The telltale sign was the water weeping out of the expansion tank cap and the whiffy smell of anti-freeze when I got out of the car. Though mine never failed at the jointing bewteen oil and water passages as I never got water in my sump oil.

Hi All
I see there are plenty of discussions around overheating.
I'm now going to have to join in.
My 2001 2.9 Diesel has been overheating.
Changed the stat and it seemed to be ok.
Got home last night after 17 mile motorway drive and checked the expansion tank. It was slightly bubbling, although the temp gauge nevr got over half way.
Did the check that Ebod suggested this morning and it did indeed hiss like a bottle of coke.

Am I on the verge of a new head gasket ????

Cheers
