Default 2004 sedona air bag light

Can anyone tell me what causes the airbag light to come on and stay on.... the dealer where I purchased it says that it is a seat belt buckle problem and has ordered a replacement. Anyone have any ideas or experience?

My air bag light is on too on my '03. Never looked into it though. Your dealer says it's a buckle issue huh? I guess I'll check mine out then.

2002 to 2004 have seat belt buckle issues. That should fix the problem.

In my experience with my Carnival Gas 2000, open your steering wheel, looked the spiral cables (it have 6 lines : 2 for Audio remote control, 2 for horn & 2 for airbag), usually the cables 'folded' and cut-off/disconnected . you can repair this with solder & sealed with rubber sealer. good luck !

I have a 2003 that had the airbag light on. The Dealership replaced the driver's seatbelt buckle for $214.14 plus tax. This did fix the problem but I sense after reading others have the same complaint that there is a pattern here....one that KIA should address.

Recall?

Note: My OBD II code reader would not identify or clear the code. Local professional shops did not have the software to diagnose a Sedona so relying on the dealership was my only choice. This kind of proprietary monopoly will always drive repair costs up.

The buckles on the side of your seat have a few thin wires going into them and they get broken off which triggers the air bag light to go off. They can be repaired but you will have to brake the outer covering off the buckle to get at them, do some nimble soldering and glue the cover back together. The airbag light codes cannot be read with an OBD II code reader and only the dealership has the power to turn them off for now (but I'm working on that one still). TIP: Before you go messing with the system, remove the Negative lead off the battery and wait about 1 minute. The airbag system stays active for a short while on its own power supply, and you dont want to blow your steering wheel or dash apart and cause a really big problem.
