Angry carnival 2.9tdi head gasket

Hello all,

Some days ago I had problem with my carnival-about 0.5l of the coolant disappear.I have added missing and it looks like OK- After about 100 km I checked the level in the coolant reservoir and it also OK.
But one disturbing symptom when the engine is hot and is working I open the oil cap (on cylinder head) and I can see that some kind of the "steam" escape What is it?
Could you give me a list of head gasket broken symptoms?
I found some information that the oil cooler sometimes leaks-and it can be the reason.
Plase help.Thank you
