Default Hissing noise from dash.

I have a 2002 Sedona with 106,000 miles and I have just noticed a hissing noise from the dash only when the A/C is on.

Any ideas?

Default hissing ac and defroster

I also have a 2002 Sedona that has the same hissing sound. I bought it used 56K miles and noticed it a few days after I purchased it. I recently took it in to have this checked and because it was driving me crazy. It only happened when the AC or defroster was on. The mechanic told me that it was the AC compressor and that it would cost me a lot to replace it. The sound is tolerable, but annoying. I read in a past forum from 2005 about the same problem with the Sorrento that was fixed with an adjustment in the "pressure" in the AC unit itself. Does anyone have more information about this?

That is what I was thinking as well as the sound tends to change if you change the a/c vent dial.

I agree that the air con pressure is too low. I have a proper machine for regassing the system. Check the pipe below the cooling fan at the front of the car, unfortunately Kia used steel brackets against aluminium pipes which caused corrosion. Mine was leaking there causing a leak.
Be very careful with so called diy recharge cans. Some contain a stop leak with expands the seals to fix leaks and also do not contain pure R134a. This then contaminates the garage professional equipment when you need to get it looked at properly. You must get it placed under vacuum to remove all the moisture from the system and replace the refrigerant dryer if you have a leak.
