Unhappy Overheating

http://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carniv...g-coolant.html

Hi All,
My 2001 Sedona (which I have only owned for a month) keeps overheating. It has a full service history with 80,000 miles on the clock. This problem occurs after about 50 miles. The engine has had a new radiator fitted.
I topped up the coolant yesterday. I drove 50 miles today, and this evening I needed to add 1.5 litres of coolant again. The expansion tank is full. I have explored the link above. Unfortunately I to was suspecting the head gasket. I can't find any other leaks in the coolant system. Is there a way of testing the head gasket that does not require a dealer? I have looked for a service manual to. The link I found needed a login and password. If anyone has a link to a 2001 service manual, please can I have it.
Any help would be much appriciated.

Neil

the best way is a cylinder leakage test where you put compressed air into each cylinder and see where it comes out ...in your case as bubbles in the water ...dealer I think ...compression test not so useful....it its not external and not in the oil its the head gasket....There is a very good trade sealer specific for cracked blocks and head gaskets ...I am in australia but you can get it from Coventry Metaling and Boring in coventry UK give them a ring ...yellow pages...real old firm good service like in the 1920s.....they will know what you are on about ( now you know why it was sold !!!) dont put it in the expansion tank it needs to circulate !!!

i GOOGLED IT 02476 672 372 if you look them up on the internet you will see they are a top place

If you need to contact me send private as I dont ususlly frequent the carnival site

Thanks for the response. I have checked the oil, no evidence in there, the exhaust smoke is clear. Its a mystery. I will take it back to the garage this week and see what they say. I have had an 04 Rio in the past and it was excellent. I'm very dissapointed with this problem in the Sedona. The garage will pay for fixing it though so at least thats some thing. What would I expect is the coolant was circulating with the oil?
I did no top the expansion tank up, the coolant has moved there during the over heat.
happy new year
Thanks
Neil

If your coolant was circulating with the oil then it would be your head gasket. I would suggest looking at your heating pipes that are underneath and travel to the o/s rear to the rear heater. They have a tendancy to corrode so you are probably leaking coolant there.

Mine did the same when i bought it and the previous owner just clamped off the rear heater pipes so they didn't leak. The downside to this was i had no heat in the rear. As the pipes from Kia are so expensive, i had the pipes replaced with normal rubber heater hose, so no more corroding.
