Question 02 Sedona - not starting after 15 min drive

Hi All,

Read all of your notes on not starting.
My situation is, after a shot journey and stopping, the car turns but will not engage unless you leave it for 1/2 hour or so, then right as rain

Is it a heating thang??

After reading a number of forums, this is what I found:-
1. IPM module - needs replacing, some sensor not working properly ouch..
2. Starter motor / alternator over heating - why has it just started to happen? forumhttp://www.kia-forums.com/kia-carniv...light=starting
3. Issue with key fob not being recognised ,,, not in this case as the engine turns.
4. Any other suggestions very welcome

We have just had the 1 yr service, new fuel filter etc. That seems to have got rid of the power loss we were getting on the motorway. We thought that these 2 issues may have been related, now I think it was just coincidence.

Please hurry with an answer as I'm rubbing a bald patch into my head from all this head scratching....

had a similar problem with an old diesel vw i used to have would fire straight up from cold but once it warmed up it would spin over but not start but bump starting would kick it straight into life or waiting for it to cool down since it was an old clunker i never put the time and money into fixing it so i never did find the cause of the problem but a couple of suggestions are that the starter is turning slow when it gets hot or the fuel pump is a bit worn dropping injector pressure at low rpm a suggestion to get past this would be a touch of veggie in the diesel to thicken it up a touch but again these are just a couple of shots in the dark as i never cured the old vw just drove it into the ground
best of luck glenn

Thanks for your feedback 93fxdl,

The dam thing went into idle and then would not start on the way to a new years eve party at a frieds. Had 2 small kids and wife on a very fast dark road, 7 near misses... Getting rid of the thing for a Honda CRV, as all confidence has gone. The AA guy was totally mistified, but though a combination of ECU and fuel pump preasure may be at fault. (As you thought)

PS - Got the the party with 15 mins to spare, thaks to the AA man. Friend picked the kids and wife up and the AA man followed me home for 15 miles, helping me to restart 3 times. A big thankyou to the other emergency service.
