Default fuel filter

I was just wondering if there was a fuel filter that required changing in the 2004 kia sedona? I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks all!

3.5l gas model has a non-serviceable "screen" in the tank. No external filter. Stupid design flaw IMO!

I own a 2003 Sedona and the filter is only available at the dealership. This is one way Kia can validate the powertrain warranty on the van. It costs about $40, and can be done without taking the gas tank out. There is a "trap door" near the middle seats in the van. this is the fuel filter and fuel pump compartment.

My 04 sedona's owners manual calls for the fuel filter to be changed at 50,000 miles. I dropped by the dealer to get info about it and was told it was in the gas tank. 75 dollar special plus 53 dollars for filter. They also said it was a 30 minute job so I knew then there was an access hole in the top of the tank and I would not have to remove the tank. So I took it out with no trouble but I could not find a filter. There is the long bag type strainer on the bottom of it but the fuel pump is all I saw there. I had to put it back in to drive but I'll take it back off and maybe take a picture and put it on here if that will help. I was trying to see what it looked like because I've seen different types in my parts searches.

Anyway does anyone know what I have and where it is. Thanks

Kia must have changed their service plan ideas on this then. What I posted came right from the parts counter at the Kia dealer. I was told it was non serviceable, and I told them how insane that idea was!

it is servicable but you have to be very carful or else you will break the fuel level sensor and screw up the pump if you do not put it back together right(which is very easy to do)

I guess I'll try it. I've ordered the part and now I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

Hey TEXKIATECH,

You sound like just the guy I'm looking for (not like that, you perverts!!!) - I changed my filter this afternoon, and I swore at myself several times and thought that changing that filter was a real PITA!

I think I've got it back together the same way it came out, but you could really set my mind at ease - it looked like the wiring connectors each had their own mate and no other connector would fit its mate - is it possible to get one pair mixed up with another? Also, does there have to be a minimum volume of gas in the tank to get the engine restarted? It looked like there was enough for the assy. to draw gas, but it is parked on a hill, nose down, and I wasn't sure if it needed more gas in the tank.

When I tried to restart the engine after putting it all back together, it just kept turning over and over without starting. Or is there something else I need to do other than foot to the floor w/out pumping the pedal (like cross my fingers/sacrifice my fourth born child to the CEO of Kia/knock myself out with a 2x4)?
