And before anyone says it "Dont let the Mrs Drive" , its not her...this time in any case.
To me it appears to be coming from the front left (passenger side) when travelling slightly to the left it starts and gets louder the more the road bends to the left, when the road straightens up it appears to almost go....when the road bends to the right it does disappear

trying to diagnose a noise without hearing it is pretty impossible but a few suggestions
wheel bearing, check ALL of them just because it appears to come from somewhere dosent mean thats where its coming from
tyres, some tyres can be noisy and since you have just rotated them this could be the noise
tracking, could be a tyre scrubbing
brakes, does the noise change/go away when you brake
just a few suggestions but if all else fails turn up the radio

its not a high pitched thing more of a droning noise, iirc the noise was there before i rotated, how do i check and how will i know if its the wheel bearings
jack up the front of the car, spin the fronts, listen for any rumbles or squeaks. Could be the brakes binding, could be a wheel bearing, these tend to rumble or make a grinding sound when they are wearing out.

when you have the front in the air as well as spinning the wheel push and pull (heave) on the top of the wheel if there is more than a small amount of movement your bearings away also try it front to back to check track rod end (ensure car is securely supported)
another possible source of noise can be the cv joint but these usually "knock on lock"

thanks Iain/Glenn, I shall give it a go, if it should be the WB are they normally changed by themselves or would I change them in pairs as in changing the front 2?
Just been surfing regarding changing wheel bearings and it seems that I might need some heavy duty equipment to get them in/out , I dont have any fancy dan tools would this rule me our of doing the job myself?

no if the bearing is gone you only need to change that one whilst you have the jack an stands out check the back ones as well
to change wheel bearings you will probably need a large hammer and a large
socket to undo the big nut in the middle of the hub and a crowbar to lever things about the only bit that can be a bit difficult is setting up the suspension angles afterwards but what you do is mark any bolts removed so they go back in the same position so your angles dont chenge

the front wheel bearing is pressed in the front wheel hub, requires you to remove the hub assembly and requires special equipment to change the front wheel bearing like a presss, bearing puller. If you havn't done one before, take the hub carrier off and take it to a local garage with the new bearing and ask them to remove the old bearing and press in the new one. You can do it at home but its not easy, bearing pullers you can get from halfrods, and are easy to use, or you could try the old heat/cold trick to help ease it out/in
. An indication that the wheel bearing is failing is that you will hear a humming noise that increases with the speed of the car and will progressively get louder as the car speed increases. If a front wheel bearing has failed, you will be able to tell which bearing has failed by listening to how loud the bearing noise is as you turn the car from right to left. If you turn the car to the right and the noise gets louder, the left front wheel bearing is bad. The opposite is also true, if you turn the car to the left and the noise is more pronounced, the right front wheel bearing is bad.
hope this helps
Iain
Took both front wheels off today the front passenger (where my suspicions lye) had a very very small amount of play maybe 1-2mm, the front drivers side had no movement.
Your guide Iain is very helpful, but the last bit is the bit which does not add up to my problem, I thinks/suspect an issue with front left passenger and it has a bit of play now the drone/hum/whine does get louder the faster you go but it comes on as the car starts to turn to the left which goes against your above theory
Called by 2 different car parts suppliers today both quoted roughly the same about £75 for front left set they said it would probably be a full hub assembly for that money....I have no idea what they meant by that though
