Default Hood latch question

I go to change the oil and pull the hood latch and next thing I know I'm staring at the handle in my hand.

Anyone else experience this? I can live with it for now until I gotta open the hood next time.

Is the handle still attached to the cable?

Try reaching up from under the front or remove the grille and activate the latch with a screwdriver or pliers.

It is a good thing to oil and check the opening cable every 10K Km services.

Good point. I think I can get to the latch with a long screwdriver through the grille.

If the black handle came off the cable, there may be enough sticking out of the housing to grab with a pair of vise grip pliers.

If you cannot get to the latch from the grille openings. You may want to go from underneath, when you remove the plastic skid panel, you will have full access. You will need a 10mm socket to get to all of the fastners.

Default An update:

I managed to get the hood open. The best way is to cut back the cable about 6 inches - be careful, because the wire is inside the shielded cable and you have to literally unwravel the shield until you see the bare wire that attaches to the hood latch mechanism.

I had no luck trying to access the latch through the grille. I had a long set of screwdrives and could not get to the latch hardware. Now, if I had a very long set of needle nose, that would've probably worked.

For now, I use a pair of vice grips to pull the cable to get the hood open. I'm going to have to find a hood latch cable in the future.
