Thumbs down HELP!!! Auto Gearbox Locked up.

My (02) 2.9td Sedona’s gearbox has had it “grinding in 1st, locking up in reverse oil is black” its done 110000miles.
Do I get a recon box for £1800 fitted with a 12 month warranty or get a second hand one that’s done 40k for £500 with a 4 month warranty and fit it myself ???
Is changing a gearbox a big job to do on my drive at home?

I know it's been a long time since you posted this thread but I just bought an 05 Sedona Monday afternoon and yesterday morning when I cranked it up and began to back out of the driveway it made a roaring noise from the transmission. I've tried to get it to do it again but it was to no avail. It seems as though it will only do it if the fluid is cold. I was wondering if you could tell me if your transmission problem started out like this or not. I have till the end of the day tomorrow to return the van if I don't want it anymore so time is of the essence. Thanks in advance for your help!
