the problems with wvo are it has become scarce as everyone wants it also the pollutants in it not only the odd chip or popadom but water and that is a real killer for diesel pumps and for a price update today asda are doing 3 litres for £2.98 or 1 litre for 98p (its cheaper to buy 3 x 1 litre bottles than 1x 3 litre one so work that one out)
ttfn glenn
98p a litre in asda shame i'm miles away from one (100) . WVO is indeed getting scarce. Too much money in oil and tax tax tax.
Does anybody know about pre common rail sedonas and their fuel systems?
Are the pumps and injectors robust, cheaper to repair, interchangeable with a CRD engine ?
Would it be a whole engine management system changeover ?
Would the car run through an mot ( emission control etc, etc)

Hi everybody, just done my monthly trip to East coast and back and recorded 240 miles on half a tank of fuel.........(still running 2/3 diesel and 1/3 new veg. oil). Nothing else to report really, apart from feeling that we motorists are being ripped off on a grand scale, but being British we just take it on the chin, moan a bit and pay up. Just don't ask me to smile as I pay more to top up my fuel than I paid for my first car!
Hey......Ignore me, I'm just a grumpy old man !
But seriously, why is vegetable oil so damned expensive?

Hi all,
Nothing new to report, (apart from I've just bought a sat-nav... very impressed.)
Still on 2:1 mix, ie. 30 litres diesel/15 litres s.v.o. Engine runs smoothly and quietly... so far, so good. Financially, not a big saving, but over the course of a year I estimate it's about £150 saved on 12,000 miles. Obviously this figure will be higher if and when I move up to a 50/50 mix. I'll keep you informed........

Hi everyone, Wesley here,
My local independent grocer told me yesterday that he had just ordered some veg. oil @ 85p. per litre and had been told the price is now £1.70p. per litre. . . . . At that rate instead of using veg. oil in my car I'll be frying my chips in diesel !
In the meantime I'm still running my 2:1 mix with no problems and will be going to a 50:50 mix soon, depending on price of veg. oil.
Last week I was in Great Yarmouth and took advantage of the Tesco Extra store and bought 2 x 15 litre drums @ £14.62 per drum. On the plus side my local Morrisons has dropped the price of diesel to £1.26.9p per litre.
More info will follow........... in the meantime,
Safe motoring,
Yes i think we all new this would happen if svo was in high demand the price would rocket.
I still cant get wvo at a good price just look on ebay people are paying 70/80 pence a liter it getting crazy.
Good luck to everyone i think we are all in the same boat.
You can definitely use bio fuel, i am using it in a 2001 Kia Sedona and its running great. I got told by a machanic tha it will run on pure oil because of the direct injection system. I had some trouble about 50 miles after i first used it, but that was the filter clogging which always happens for the first time you change over. It was just the pump struggling to pull the bio through. After a change of filter it was fine. I seem to be getting more miles to gallon and the fuel is so much cheaper per full tank.
Hi Guys
As previous new members before me I have read from page one to page 13 with great interest. I too have a wife who would kill me should I even think of putting SVO in our 2.9 Sedona LE.
I am puzzled I dunno much about these newfangled engines, I think it's a common rail but dunno, I know it's a Turbo, but that's all I know.
Anyway my two pennies worth I have run my 1.9 Astra on 50%SVO:50% Dino, and apart from the usual starting hiccups on a colder day, (of which we have had plenty) it seemed to run fine.
From my reading back before I started down this road I noted that using filtered WVO was higher in acidity so I bottled it from even looking for a suitable supply.
I did ponder getting the conversion done but unstable SVO prices have scuppered any thoughts of pursuing that option.
Currently Costco is selling KTC oil in 20l drum in plastic and metal containers.Current ppl is 87p (Haydock,Merseyside) The plastic containers have a wider neck and I purchased a pump off ebay for biodiesel for about 20 which empties a 20l drum in about 3 mins (Listed as 12 volt submersible pump for diesel or bio fuel)
So I am still thinking about also taking the plunge with the Sedona, I went back to using 100% dino in my Astra cos pumps are expensive...I believe about £1500 and I couldn't tell whether it's a bosch or a lucas.
Anyway, thanks for the interesting read and perhaps I will swell your ranks real soon, just need to encourage the wife... it's her baby I am tempting fate with and she needs it for work too.
Hope my rant makes sense. Keep up the good work....All for one etc...
