I bought a SX a few days ago (wishing that I had waited for the 2016 or one with the tech package) and for some reason, I thought the SX came with HIDs and that the tech package was HIDs plus leveling.
I'm a bit disappointed since now I've learned that it's regular halogen and the LED strip is different than the ones with the tech package or the SXL.
Anyways! Has anyone installed a LED aftermarket kit for the lowbeams? (H7) I was going to go with HIDs, but it looks like LEDs are in (lower consumption, instant on, longer lasting, but also lower lumen output than HIDs)
I'm new to forum and recently picked up a 2015 Sedona SXL without the HIDs and decided to put LED headlights into the car, but turns out they will not work. With the way the low beams are setup in this car, the bulb attaches to socket which is then secured into the headlight housing. The actual twist locking mechanism is part of the socket that you plug the bulb into. Traditional H7 housings have a metal clip that you secure the bulb to the housing and then plug the socket in which is the only way to secure the LED bulb. Needless to say, I now have a spare set of H7 LED bulbs that won't fit the car.
Did you take out the headlight housing? I wanted to install the ones I got, but I couldn't take out the headlights. I removed the screws from the top, but it feels like there's something still holding the headlights to the bumper.
I did remove the bolts that held the top part of the grill to give me a little bit of space to pop up the headlight. I didn't remove it entirely, but enough to get to the low beams.
I wish I found this forum before I went and bought a set of LED bulbs for my 2017 SX+. Now I am stuck with them. I am now looking at HID kits and based on other Hyundai / Kia forums it appears there are bulb holders adapters which are suppose to work.
Of course you'd need to drill a hole in the dust cover to allow the cables to pass through. I found a video someone posted on their install, but I can't find the link again.
As for removing the low beam bulb, I too had a difficult time and tried removing the headlight housing, but couldn't figure it out. Turns out you don't need to. You just have to turn the bulb holder pretty hard to get it off, but once you've done it once you be kicking yourself on how easy it actually is.
Hope someone finds this info useful.
