UPDATE: Android Auto has been confirmed for the 2015-2016 Sedona via "software update." See here: http://www.android.com/auto/
I'm in the market for a minivan, and I'm really interested in the 2015 Sedona. One specific question I had was about Android Auto (I'm less interested in Apple CarPlay but others might be, of course).
Looks like Kia is working with Google to install Android Auto in at least some models. Here's a news story about AA being installed in the 2016 Kia Optima.
Question: will the 2015s be able to take advantage of AA? No one knows for certain but we might make some bets. And it might help me decide between the EX and the SX. Only the latter has the 8" screens, which is what the Optima has in the linked article. Perhaps to have any hope of Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) at the very least you'd need those larger screens.
If your referring to 2015 Sedona, I haven't heard this vehicle cater this features as of this moment. Just hang on for the update, they might embed this technology on the existing model soon or on their next Sedona year models. On the other hand, this feature is big advantage for KIA to include in their MiniVan.
The uncertainty is ... difficult. We're making a 5-10 year commitment to a car, and there's precious little info on something so important! The future of electronics in the car is obviously with Google and Apple, not the in-car nonsense...
Here's an article about 2015 Hyundai Sonatas getting Android Auto. It looks like they need the larger screen for it to work. And aren't Hyundai and Kia made by the same company?

My salesman told me this week we will be getting the free upgrade when the 2016 Optima comes out in July. The Optima will come preloaded with this feature. He said it is only for the systems that use the large screen.
For what it's worth, when I purchased my SX last week the salesperson told me that the Android Auto/Apple Car Play updates would be available as an app store update. I'm not sure how confident I am in his statement due to some other information he gave me which I think applied to the 2016 model instead of the 2015.
I recently contacted Kia to inquiry about the support of android auto/carplay in 2016 Sedona. A Kia rep called me back and confirmed that, Kia is developing an update which can be installed on existing Kia HU including 2016 Sedona. I asked how certain he is about the update coming to 2016 Sedona specifically. He is very positive about that. He said the only question is when the update will be available. His estimate is the end of this year.
From what I read in other posts, the update can only be installed on large screens, not the basic HU. But I forgot to confirm with the rep. I will get an SX with the technology package. So I will have the large screen. If you want to get a lower trim, you need to ask Kia.
I did not ask for 2015 model specifically. But my impression is that the 2015s will get it too, although I am not certain. You can send Kia a message and they will get back to you.
Well, it's 2016 and still no Android Auto update for the Sedona, even for the 2016 models. My disappointment is even greater after having used Android Auto on a 2016 Hyundai Sonata while on vacation. It worked extremely well, and the screen on the car was even smaller than our Sedona's. Switching between navigation and music/phone was flawless. Voice recognition rocked.
Hopefully something good will be announced tomorrow.

Disappointed here too. But I am still hoping. My guess is that AC/AA would come available for 2017 Sedona as a new feature. 2016 models will then get an update.
If you scroll down to video#66, it talks about how to set up Android Auto. Can someone who has the AVN4 head unit ask nearby dealerships if there is an updated firmware already??
With a "software update". I sure hope that's a dealer-install, rather than part of a required $$$ map update (wouldn't that be ironic: update our maps so you get your Google maps?!).
You might be getting the same deal as the 2016 Sonata Hybrid. Hyundai is going to update their map and include Apple CarPlay for free after the new map is available.
I hope so. We bought Sedona SX over the weekend and our sales rep indicated the same when I mentioned I had seen the Android Auto website. Wonder about CarPlay? I have Android Auto/CarPlay on my Pioneer AVH 4100NEX in my 2008 Fusion and it is pretty awesome. CarPlay seems about on generation behind in terms of functionality and use-ability - and in typical Apple fashion, the non-Apple app support is pretty limited. So if it doesn't come to the Sedona, I'm not heartbroken. Definitely want the Android Auto though.
I confirmed with a chat rep that version 10 (due out in June) will include android auto! Unfortunately, we're still probably stuck paying for it. Excerpt below:
Ryan: Yes, the Android Auto will be included with the map update for this vehicle
Ryan: Starting with v10
Me: starting with V10 - so the discounted v9.5 doesn't have it, correct?
Ryan: For customer support for Android Auto, you will have to contact Kia at 8003334542
Ryan: correct
(Note: well, it looks like I don't have enough posts here to post a url, but just search for "Kia Motors America Launches Apple CarPlay® With UVO" and you'll find the May 12 Kia PR release related to this)
It seems like the Android Auto/CarPlay update is going to be essentially the same for the Sedona as it is for these models mentioned in this press release, but that these functionality updates are necessarily delivered with map updates (for which the map data vendors need to be compensated) that aren't still-free updates like they are for recently released models. So that is why we'd have to pay the upgrade fee (probably $150-$200, although perhaps anyone who recently bought a 2016 Sedona might be within a free upgrade period - dunno) even if you're perfectly happy with your slightly outdated map data.
I've personally got no problem with this - I don't usually feel compelled to pay actual cash money to update map data terribly often, but if it brings CarPlay to the Sedona, I'll be thrilled. It still feels unexpected to potentially have access to a new feature (however slight, but in this case, welcome and useful) on a car bought over a year ago - automakers have finally started to acknowledge that in this software driven world, software features cannot be static, even in an already-sold vehicle. And to have a 2 year newer map database along with this, cool.
