Exclamation Kia 07 Sedona Rear Door Latch

I have a 2007 Kia Sedona. Everytime I try shutting the rear door, it won't latch onto the bottom piece of metal. It seems it is stuck in the locked position no matter if I lock or unlock the rest of the car. I hope I haven't slammed it shut too much. I wonder how to fix this manually without taking it to the shop/dealer. Thanks for any advice you may have.

I had a problem with mine that seems to have gone away but was similar. If I closed the rear hatch and it didn't latch all the way, and in haste I hit the lock button on key fob, I had a hell of a time getting it open again.

I think I used some lithium grease on it and make sure that I close it proper now and I haven't had recent problems.

If you trip the claw lock thingie(yeah not the technical term) and it locks, you may need to work the latch while putting some sort of tool in there to get the claw open. Pencil may work in that regard, then lube it up good with white lithium grease.

see if that helps

There is a recall on 2006-2010 Sedonas for that problem. It's Service Action SA058.
I just had my 2006 in for it's 104000 km service and they replaced my latches for free!

SAo58 deals with the passenger and drivers side sliding side doors, not the rear boot/hatch.
Have the same problem with the rear door ("boot" in Australia)...slam it shut and it doesnt close properly. Come down next morning and find the "boot open" dash light on.

Any recommended fixes? Or simple grease/lube latches and check inside trim panels?
Cheers
Dave
