Hi,
I own a 06 Sedona LX and it has been one problem after another. The van has around 25k on it 11/2 old. I was wandering if anyone has had any of these problems.
1. Rotors in the front warped twice. Second time after warranty mileage Kia said I had to pay to replace them.
2. We bought the van on a Sat. back in the shop Mon. Bad relay and blown fuse in the dvd player.
3. Bad linkage for the stabilizer bar.
4. I had water leaking into the cargo area, because of seems not sealed on the body. I was out a car for 3 weeks Kia refused to pay for a rental.
5. Paint bubbling on the fender, Kia said enviromental damage which is a load of bull S$%t.
6. Now it is the shop for a metal on metal clanking noise when you hit the bumps and it is pulling to the left.
We bought a Kia because of the saftey ratings. My wife and I are never going to purchase a Kia again. The customer service sucks. We like the van but with all the problems we don not feel safe driving it with the kids. I have never had a car give me this much trouble.
Yes,
I bought it new 30 miles on it. We just got back from vacation and the front wheel cylinder s are squeeling, so I get to make another apt. The dealer I go to is within 10 miles of my house and offer shuttle service. The only other 2 dealers are 1 hour or more away depending on traffic.
I have one of the problems that you had. I bought my 2006 Kia Sedona right before I went overseas to Iraq so that my wife would have anew vehicle to work with and not have to worry about anything. Twice she has found water in the cargo area and thought maybe something was wet in the area and left there. I have now found the same twice but nothing was left there this time. Can you give me more info on what they found on your van? I took it to the dealership and they said they ran some tests and could nto find any leaks. Thanks.
Driving home from a trip two weeks ago I was descending a 6% grade and each time I braked, the wheel wobbled back and forth. Looks like I have warped rotors. If Kia will fix them I won't take them to my shop. I only have 19,000 miles on the van.
I have also had the following problems:
1) Climate control switch went out, which means no A/C. KIA had the van for 5 days but did provide a rental for free (after I threw a fit on their sales floor in front of customers, it was not offered)
2) Drivers side mirror split in half. Would not fix under warranty, Kia claimed the mirror was damaged. The glass shop who repaired the mirror for $77 told me it was defective, moisture had gotten between the glass and the heating coils (heated mirror). The first time I turned on the defroster, the mirror split.
3) The horn is defective. When the ambient temperature get over 75-80 degrees the horn makes a sound like a wounded water fowl. MooooWaaaaaaack, MoooooWaaaaaaack. On a cold day the horn sounds normally. Thats the weird thing.
Well to answer the brake question, KIA never replaced my rotors or brakes. They cut them twice, the third time the rotors warped KIA said, it was past the 12,000 or 1 year warranty. My father and I replaced the brakes and rotors on the front after the third time.
As for the water problem. Here is what my service invoice said,
"Verified source of water leak. Coming from a body seam under rear hatch. Sealed with caulking on the seal, the seams and the back of the latch. Also found patch seal leaking. Resealed inside channel of hatch main weather stripping. Verified repair."
The service shop had my van for 14 days, KIA refused to pay for a rental.
I have never had a car give me so much trouble!
My advice is never buy KIA, they are pieces of junk. Also we are no longer a KIA owner we got out from under the lemon. The trade in value sucks on KIA's, but we were lucky. We had a friend pull some favors and the dealership where we traded the van at paid the rest of the loan of completly. Now we have a Suzuki XL7.
Owned my van since April last year and just a few months ago took it in cuz my front rotars were also warped, kia replaced them at no charge but recommended I replace the front pads - they only charged me for the pads and not for the labor as they were doing the rotars anyway - so far no problem since then. I do feel the alignment of the van may be out or the tires need balancing - wheel will shake at 120-130km/h on the highway and then disappear after 140km/hr - and strange but sometimes theres no shake at all at any speed - also sometimes this van seems to have these incredible surges of power, other times with the CVT it seems to have a lag before the pick up kicks in.....overall it's a good van for the money - but the Odyssey drove much better, smoother and was more responsive - nice van Honda has but I couldn't justify the warranty and heftier price tag
I'm currently having problems with my brakes. Had the Kia (purchased Oct 07) in the shop to replace the wiring harness earlier this year & they told me my rotors were warped & my brake pads completely worn down. Took it to my regular mechanic who said pads & rotors were fine. Slight warping on rotors but nothing major.
Since then, the shaking in the front end when braking has gotten worse & there's a knocking sound on the driver's side, particularly when turning or hitting a bump. Had it in the shop again 2 weeks ago for clicking noise in A/C and customer service said rotors are warped & need machining, front end needs to be aligned, & tires need to be rotated.
You can't be too angry.
My wife blows a gasket every time we have a problem with the car and I have to remind her we bought the cheapest van on the market. You get what you pay for. We paid about $8,000 less than a comparable Honda or Toyota. And probably around $2,000 less than a Dodge or Ford.
I have to remind myself sometimes also. We have had more problems than I expected from a new vehicle and I would be really angry if it was a Honda I had paid top dollar for.
I am on the fence about buying another Kia. I don't know yet whether saving the money up front is worth the hassle.
