I am desperately seaching for an answer to a problem with my Kia Sedona 2006.
Sometimes, while driving the parking brake light on console turns on and the vehicle suddenly slows down. After a while the light goes out but the check engine light comes on. And worse, the check engine light goes out when I reach the dealership.
Once it also happened when I just started the car. When I tried to back up with the parking brake light on, the engine stalled. I checked to make sure that the parking brake was not engaged. After a while the parking brake light went out all by itself, but the check engine light turned on. The next day when I took the van to dealership the check engine light was gone.
This problem has already occured more than 4 times and the dealership has not been able to figure out anything. The van is exteremly unreliable and I am seriously thinking about a lemon law claim at this point.
Could someone please tell me if they have seen this problem occur before and if so what had been the solution.
This bulletin provides a repair and/or relocation procedure for the stop lamp switch wiring harness on 2006 Sedona EX vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals with production dates between June 15, 2005 and May 18, 2006. It is possible that 2006 model year Sedona EX vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals, an improperly positioned wiring harness can make contact with the U-joint assembly of the steering column. Repeated contact may eventually cause the wiring insulation to wear through leading to chaffed wires. Chaffed wires could cause a short of the wiring harness resulting in the loss of brake lights, engine stalling or an inability to start the vehicle.
Yesterday morning I got the transponder re-programmed in an effort to get the DTC code 1693 fixed. In the evening the same problem as before started again. Wonderful isn't it?
I called up Kia directly and again spoke to the representative who is handling my case. I had to explain her that technically I can file a lemon law claim (under NJ law) as this was the third time that the dealership failed to fix the problem. But I would still like to give Kia a final fair chance to repair the defect. And I expect Kia to respect my lost wages and time and provide me a rental car at no cost to me for the time that this final repair takes.
If the dealership fails to fix the problem again, I am definately going to file a lemon law claim. Can anyone please suggest good lemon law attorneys in NJ?
I sent you 2 emails. KIA looks at these problems or threats of lawsuits as business as usual. Your wasting your breath dealing with KIA directly, the representatives are just yes people to calm you down. Hire that attorney. JMHO

I experienced the slipping transmission problem today. My wife and 2 kids (4yrs and 1 yr) were in the car too.
We were merging on route 46 in NJ from a small street when we experienced the slipping transmission problem. The mini van became powerless at the exact point when a lot of power is need to keep up with the higher speed of a major street.
By Gods grace an accident was avoided when the person behind us on route 46 changed his lane at the last moment. He took a big risk by doing that on a wet road.
Thank you anonymous, Thank you God.
Did I just hear you say L-E-M-O-N? and who said "safest mini van ever"?
Its a never ending battle with problems. Just when you think it can't get worse it does. Did you call KIA consumer services to hear the famous "Thats why you have free towing" ? LOL. Glad to see it worked out fine and everyone is safe "no thanks to the vehicle". Hope you got your packet back.
I have not pronounced "LEMON" at the dealership yet, but I guess they have smelled it already. I had called the KIA customer service requested that they not experiment with my van, if something needs to be changed, just change that whole thing, not change one small part at a time, else I will be eligible to file a (NJ) Lemon law case. I guess that was enough for them. Now the dealership has started harrasment techniques. I am sure KIA corporate communicated this to the dealership.
I have been to the dealership 3 times after I called KIA customer service, everytime the dealership has a reason to not take my van in. The first time they gave a reason, that they had no open appoinments for that day. The second time, they gave a reason, their experienced electrical tech is out. (They don't even know for sure yet if it's an electrical problem) The third time (today), I called up and asked them to keep a rental car for me so I could drop off my van. When I reached the dealership they told me that the Enterprise rental office had closed. When I am sure they don't have a seperate Enterprise rental office. They have their own rental thing.
The dealership is now using all sorts of sly techniques to avoid my van as long as possible, so the van will reach the 18,000 miles mark before I file a lemon law case.
Could you folks please share any more sly dealership techniques?
They do use Enterprise for rentals. They close at 5 PM in my area. They know us at Enterprise now. When we get a rental car they ask whats wrong with your van now? I'd wager without looking it up we have over 30 rental days with them, probably around 40 days. Take it to a different dealer.
