Question Accelerator "travel" in 2006 Grand Carni

Hi guys, I test drove a 2006 (jan) GC on weekend (in OZ) and really liked the feel of the whole car, however one thing i did notice was the minimal distance the accelerator actually travels. I am not sure if it is normal with the GC but this one just felt weird!!! I reckon the pedal only travels about 1 &1/2 to 2 inches from applying pressure to flat to the floor! i mean when you are driving along quite normally and go to put your foot down you nearly always find it is flat to the floor already. I am not sure if its a characteristic of the gearbox (changing to a higher gear too early) or driving style, or maybe its the " fly by wire" technology if the GC has it fitted?
My mazda 3 is " fly by wire" but it has a totally different feel to it. Also the accelerator pedal travels about 3 inches from no pressure to flat to the floor.
If any one can shed some light on the subject it would be appreciated. I am sure i can get some feedback here off the the new "carni " owners here. Thanks Chicken

Hi Chicken,
When I saw the post title, I assumed that someone was going to complain about there being too much accelerator pedal travel. I don't recall experiencing the minimal travel that you mention on our GC or the couple that we test drove this time last year. I am generally surprised by the extra pedal travel, and resulting acceleration, that is still left when the GC is already scooting along at a decent speed. If you are driving along quite normally and find that your foot is already flat to the floor I think there is something seriously wrong with the GC you were driving. I have rarely had my foot flat to the floor except when overtaking on the highway, and this definitely feels much different to normal driving. I guess it may depend on what you are used to driving as well.
Bert.
