Default Is this normal...

Greetings, my wife drives (and loves) our 2006 Sedona. I drove the van this morning and it's getting cold here. Anyway, when I started the car, the engine raced to about 2500 rpm.

Is this normal?

It seems odd for the engine to race like that on startup.

TIA,

Don

I don't know about the '06 Sedona but most engines will idle higher when cold in order to try to warm up more quickly. So, chances are, it's doing exactly what it should be.

Or, it could be a fault somewhere in the engine managment system or sensors and it has entered "failsafe" / "get me home" mode.

2500 is rather more than a normal "fast idle"

Suggest you have it checked for fault codes ASAP.

cheers

Wouldn't that normally cause the CEL to glow?

No CEL. It only does it if it is freezing outside and the car has sat overnight. I'll keep an eye on it and ask the dealer about it if it persists.

Thanks,

Don

Probably okay, then. But, yeah, ask the dealer in case it needs to be adjusted.

Mine does the exact same thing. Apparently nothing to worry about, just a quirk with the 2006 Sedona. I mentioned it to the dealer and they were unconcerned.

Our Brand New 06 does the same thing how may others have this. I am assuming it is just something in the EMS, its consistant and always after a long time sitting idle in the garage ie overnight.

I have a 2004 Kia Rio which does the same thing when it wants to. It also stalls at lights and revs at lights.

Just a Kia thing I am told.

I have a New 06 (1,800 miles)and it also has very high start up idle. What I do is when it first starts I turn off the key to kill the eng.(My concern is having Eng. oil in the right place at the right time) than I start again idle than comes down.
