Default Australian-Spec. Short Carnival

Kia Aust. has finally up-dated their web-site & the Grand carnival has made a very belated apperance. Also there is the new Short Carnival or "Carnival 06" as they're calling it. Several changes for the Oz market.
It's an 8-seater. 2-3-3 with the 3rd row 50/50 split.
It does have the Hyundai 2.7 V6 with 4-speed auto but from November a 5-speed MANUAL will be available.
Cruise-control is standard as Tri-Zone A/C
The rear suspension looks very similar to the old '05 Carnivals, which ties in with the "non-disappearing" 3rd -row seats.

The funny thing is that they are now selling THREE different Carnivals. Our old model, now called "Carnival 05 MY", "Carnival 06" (Short) & Grand Carnival (Long/3.8/5-speed auto only). All in 2 levels of equipment each, so SIX basic models, plus options. At least, until they sell out of '05s. Stupid thing is that the '05 has JUMPED in price to about $34 000-00 OTR, up from $30 000-00 OTR.

Spoilt for choice, or what?

G'day Esses
I notice the Grand now has the electric doors &steering mounted audio controls, which is good to see.I can't understand why they would up the price of the 05,you would think if anything they would drop the price to run them out.Cheers Len

I wouldn't trust a word a Dealer tells you. Kia is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai. That 2.7 V6 (just off the top of my head) is used in the Hyundai: Tucson, Santa Fe, Tiburon, Trajet & I think the Elantra + the Kia: Sportage, Optima & now Carnival 06.
Given the track-record of the Kia (Rover design) 2.5 V6 I don't think that Hyundai would touch their motors with a barge-pole!

G'day Esses
The Hyundai 2.7 has been around for a few years now & has proven to be a reliable engine. They have used it in a number of different models now. After the problems with the 2.5 it's no wonder they have opted for the 2.7 which will serve them well, without the hg problems. It should sell well now they won't have that worry.Cheers Len

Thing is, Len, that the 05 Carnival was already selling like hot-cakes. Slaughtering, amongst others, the Hyundai Trajet!
Further to the pricing, our local dealer, at least, still has the 05 Carnival selling at $29 990-00 OTR. No free DVD, though.
On that subject, I just bought one of those Twin-Screen Portable DVD Players for my Patrol. Fed a head-phone extension cord through to the 3rd row so one kid can sit down the back & still watch "TV". Absolute heaven. This one also came with a plug-in game so you can watch a movie on one screen & play games on the other!
The things we do for our kids! Or rather, for some peace & quiet!
