Default At last I've had a look at the 2006 'New Model'

At last I have seen the 2006 'New Model sedona. Some of it I like, some of it I don't.

Thankfully, the 2.5 ton monster now has disc brakes all round. About time too. The front ones are vented, the rear ones are solid.

Sadly the middle row of two captains chair have gone, to be replaced by three seats. Being an old un' myself, I prefer the comfort of the captains chairs with their armrests, for our aged friends. But, I understand it will be great news for families.

The five speed box (auto and manual) will help to keep the revs down as the top speed is quoted as 120mph.

The diesel bulge has gone from the bonnet, which I think is a shame because I thought it made the sedona look more rugged.

I was assured that the third row of seats on the new model would go into the floor AKA the Chrysler Voyager, but this is definitely not the case on the 2006 new model Sedona in the UK.

The GS model 'only' has 10 cupholders, but the LS and the TS models have 14 each. Wow!!

The sliding doors on all models now have electric windows, and the top two models now have 'power' opening of the sliding doors.

The isn't much more difference of any note, except to say that they have dropped my colour (gold) from the range.

All in all, it's still a lot of car for the money, but having said that, I still prefer the comfort of the captains chairs in the middle row.

Kirky.

Diesel 'bulge' gone as they've put the intercooler in a much better place!
It weighs in at 2.9 tonnes now!!!!
The new model shares absolutely no components with the old one, UK models come with VRS for the steering, and once you drive one, you will be amazed just how quick it will turn, the steering is actually connected to the wheels at long last!
Tri-zone climate control is pretty neat, and full control for rear, with heat or air coming from vents, rather than the old split system, the 5 speed auto is a great box, up there with the best, no idea why anyone would want a manusl with an auto that good!

Kirky, I'm with you on the "Captain's Chairs". My two smaller kids love their arm-rests!
Here in Aust., it's called the "Grand Carnival" & the 3rd row does fold into the floor. However, the yet to be released "Short" Carnival will keep the same removeable setup as in my '05 Carnival. Worse though is it's new 2-3-2 setup, instead of my 2-2-3, which we love. Oh well. Just have to keep our "Mum Brmm!"

Default Question for Murphwiz. VRS steering

Murphwiz, pardon my ignorance but what is 'VRS' steering? I can only guess at 'variable resistance steering.'

I have a muscle wasting illness and had to have my 2004 Sedona's power steering specially lightened by fitting another pump (I think).

Will this new VRS steering be able to be lightened? Apparently the KIA is one of the few 'big' cars that doesn't have 'electrical' power steering, which is why it was possible to lighten my Sedona's steering.

Many thanks.

Kirky

Variable Rack Stroke, apparently theres room in every rack at the stops to allow for clearence for snow chains etc, the VRS switched off, removes the stops, giving better turning circle, 1m less than std, you can add the 'snow chain' clearence, by pressing the VRS button.
The steering is still hydrailc by mechanical pump, steering is much lighter than old Sedona, and variable with speed, but only you can decide if it's light enough for your condition.

Thanks for the explanation of VRS.

When you say that the new model shares 'absolutely no components with the old one', does that mean that the 2.9 diesel has been redesigned too?

Also I am wondering where the extra .4 ton has come from? At 2.9 tons, is it the new auto box?

Kirky.

2.9 engine has been re-engineered, completely new injection system etc, meets euro 4 emissions without using a filter!
Can only assume it's gained weight through natural extra strength, more toys etc etc.
