Unhappy Grand Carnival EX: Oil Leak

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, having just purchased a Grand Carnival EX (Australian Model) last Friday.

We are thrilled with our new purchase, however this morning I noticed a few drops of oil on the garage floor. Has anyone else out there had a problem with the oil leaking?

Cheers,
Jacqui

BTW: The car drives like a dream and the space is fantastic.

Hi Jacqui,
We bought our Grand Carnival 3-4 months ago and have not noticed any oil leaks to date. So far, there have been no problems at all, and my wife has nothing but praise for the it. I hope that thi leak is nothing major in your case, and suggest you call the dealership for them to arrange a prompt solution.
Bert.

It could be a service issue maybe? We had our '05 Carni's 15 000 km service done recently & the next morning there was a puddle of oil on the driveway!
Dived underneath & it turns out that it was spillage from when they were changing the (sideways) oil-filter. The "old" oil had pooled on the sub-frame then dripped off.

Thanks for your replies.

We took the car in yesterday to be looked at and was told that it wasn't an oil leak but wax. It seems that Kia Korea put wax on the engines so they won't become rusty due to them arriving in Australia by slow boat .
When you start driving them the engine heats up and melts the wax. The mechanics cleaned off all the wax that was left, tightened up some bolts around the sump and sent us home.

Anyway, sure enough this morning we have another puddle in the garage and this wax sure does look and smell a lot like oil. What's the saying ... if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck then ...

So, 'Candy Carnival' (that's the car's name) is off for another visit to a different dealership and she's only done 500 klms.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,
Jacqui

PS. Esses - are you an Aussie, if so who serviced yours?

Default She's all fixed

Hi All,

My beautiful car is now fixed. In the end it took 5 visits to the dealership which resulted in 2 wax theories, 2 engine cleans, 1 replaced oil gasket (which made it worst) and finally a replaced Sump.

Final Result: Candy Carnival is no longer leaving puddles in the garage .

Happy motoring,
Jacqui

BTW: Has anyone in Australia managed to get cheap car seat covers made for their Carnival?. SuperCheap quotes $150 per row (for the cheapest fabric).

Bayside. Yes, in Oz, in Canberra. Our Dealer is National Capital Motors. Not much choice, they're the ONLY one!
Seat covers. Get the el-cheapo ($25-00 ea) full-fitting sheepskins & cut slots for the armrests to come through. Do the same for the tray tables on the backs of the seats. For our 3rd row we got those "single-layer" sheepskins with elastic straps that stretch around the seat ($29-00 ea) which work well. Hey presto, 6 matching sheepskin seat-covers.
Glad "Candy" is all better.
